Just got the new Western Horseman and they haad an article on calving the Stevenson cows in Russia. I wonder if they are going to keep calving them in January in Russian winters-the dew might fall of that lily pretty quick.

I saw that article too. I suspect it depends on the availability of cheap labour and more importantly expertise. It would take a lot of Russian anti-freeze to do that job.
I work with a fellow whose company has exported hog genetics to the Ukraine and a lot of their agriculture is housed in huge former military buildings. Maybe they have a calving bunker?

Cheap and dependable and WILLING I don't think I've ever seen anything but hardworking familes and Hutterites successfully winter calve.
