Was a little tough to get everyone comfortable. These critters were only 100 yards from a good shelter but we still had to chase them in. The wind was flinging snowball bullets at you. Not a fun storm but at least it was fairly warm.

That is the power line lower than the height of the cab of the tractor. Yikes, no wonder the power was off.

Where's Sparky when you need him. :???:

Great snowman making weather.

A fair bit of ice on the lines. Power was out for a few days.

Help on the way. These guys were from near Edmonton. A little out of their way. Thanks for coming.

The sun came out today, I had a meeting that took me past some cattle.
These are an awesome set of PB Angus.

I came across these yearlings that are somewhat bleached in color.

I hope you all had a good day. :-)

per, thanks for the pics, how much snow did you get?

That was a miserable wind.

Were those power poles half rotten ? The lines usually come off the insulators before the poles break.

Are those your blacks?

Some were older punky posts but most were good posts. The lines were broke and a mess for miles. That was taken on the coal trail between High River and Longview.

Boy I would like to own those blacks. It is a sweet set of cows, good bags feet, disposition and not big or small. They belong to Ben McLeod at High River. My trucker hauls them when they need hauling. They are a pain to load because they are so tame.

Sorry I missed the snow question. It snowed and rained hard for a couple of days. As best we can tell about 3 inches of moisture. Could be a bit more, hard to measure because the snowflakes were too big for the rain gauge and was horizontal. It left about a foot of slush.

Per......I'm a little jealous of your sunshine today; we've had two continuous days of rain & wind with the prospect of a couple more! While the moisture is appreciated it is becoming a struggle to feed on saturated ground and it is hard on calves. Hopefully we will pick up some sunshine soon and can start moving cows around.........should be a great growth of grass starting........the sooner the better!

cowsense-- been getting the same here...Rain gauge this morning is up to an inch for the last 3 days...Still raining....

Not sure how its affecting the last of the cows calving- as they are doing so out on grass-- but the moisture is definitely appreciated... :D

Sure going to throw a monkey wrench into some around here too- that truck out to pasture starting May 1...

Even with all the potential problems dealing with the moisture,
I suspect all of us are doing the dance of joy!!!

We have been here since 1993 and I can't remember getting
moisture like this in April unless it came in the form of a big
ole' spring snowstorm. Which it is turning into as I look out the
window. YIKES!! And it's starting to stick.

I see moisture's not a problem for you right now, looks like you've got a little welding project to keepyou busy this weekend.

Yea that's what I was thinking. :D

Did you tell us you only fed your first bale the other day?

Good thing you didn't have to use that handler all winter.

Ya it was several days ago now. I need to roll enough feed out to remind me to prepare banked grass and swath grazing. We can fix most of what breaks but it breaks less if it doesn't get used.

You gotta love the line men, I have the most respect for those guys .They do a heck of a job to get us up and running asap.

Just saw that called off the 20 cm of snow forecasted for Wed and now it is 1 mm of rain Sun Mon and Tues.. Oh well, I will take it.

We drove to Calgary Thursday afternoon-we kind of skirted the storm on the east side of it by the time we cut west at Hanna it was starting to blow out-lots of cars in the ditch and a couple upside down when we got closer to Calgary. Emily had a good weekend playig hockey was MVP of one game. Ty won the Saddle Bronc in Lac La Biche and Sara and Megan minded the fort so it was good weekend all around.
