Tennis Elbow

I had pain in my elbow, outside forearm that I ignored but when it didn't go away. I looked up Tennis Elbow and it looks like that's what I'm dealing with. The question is if it is something from my farm activities or my 40/hr a week job, or a combination. I think this is the place to ask if it's common with ranch activities. Yesterday I asked a girl I work with about the problem she has with her arm. Turns out it looks like the same thing I have, and she got it from our job. So now I'm upset because an injury someone else got, I now have and effects my business, my ability to do things on the farm. I'm going down to Homestead for the race this weekend (have family down there), I'll probably see a doctor when I get back. So again, I ask if this is common with "ranch" activities?

Thanks.

Well my knees hurt from rodeo and i broke my ankle and nose on bulls too. I've broken three fingers on the ranch. Broke a collarbone and clavical playing football. Been kicked, crapped on, mauled by a couple mother cows a few times. But i've yet to hurt myself playing tennis while ranching. :D Maybe it's a grassfed thing?    Heal up quick Ben! :D

Yep, I get it especially if I have to flake large square bales  . I banned them back on 2007, most misreable things in the world, and they don't keep at all if you have any left over.

Ibuprofen helps me when it gets bad. Is that your only ache or pain??? I'm JEALOUS if it is! :D

Oh WR say it isn't so. :???: When I switched from the small idiot squares to the large square bales, I thought I'd died and gone to heaven.

Ben, it's probably from shakin' your fist at the motorists on your way to and from work....chill out man. 8)

I think i have it as well. I can't figure out what causes it. :?

I have some topical anti inflammatory lotion that seems to help a bit.

It's my left arm and I broke it pretty bad a few years ago and I have problems with feeling in my hand. Probably damaged some tendons.

Oh, I say it IS SO!!! :P They would be better than small squares, those are pretty much banned here as well  :D . You'd really think you've died and gone to heaven if you ever got to feed rounds. I prefer twine tied to net wrapped, but I can't always have it all :D .

This fall, I bought one truckload (29 1500# bales) of alfalfa tied with netwrap. That is enough. I don't advocate this stuff at all. :? My first preference is sisal if the bales get hauled off the meadows quick enough (before the twine rots). Next choice is the solar biodegradable twine. Netwrap and plastic twine are to be avoided.

 ...I have this also...I caused it fencing...gripping and squeezing the fence cutters...Went to the Doc after a month of Ibuprophin(sp)..She gave me a heavy duty anti-inflammatory, and told me to rub it with Aspercream...and let it rest...If it did not get better..shots were next. She also recommended a cuff worn just below the elbow. It is much better now.. :)

Yes and No-- its usually called getting older....

I can remember 40-50 years ago when I would ride ( or try to ) anything with hair on it-- and thought the rodeo life was the glamorous way to go- my Dad told me that it might not bother you now, but it will 40 years from now....But as most that age - I didn't listen to Dad...

Dad was right.....

From experience--Whatever you do-- don't ever let the Doc's put you on steroid treatment of any kind...It really helps alleviate the pain- but can sure screw you up every other way...Living with the pain is better......

I had a sore shoulder a few years ago. I went to see a bone doctor and he said it was a worn rotator cuff and he shot me up with some steroids which did'nt do much. A week or two later I went to the chiropractor for my back and he asked if I had any other pains. I explained about my shoulder he thought it was most likely some calcium deposits he did some kind of ultrasound treatment on it for a 1/2 an hour and it has'nt bothered me since. My knee's hurt quite a bit for years but once I quit jumping off the 3rd step on the step ladder at work that pain ceased also. It's hell getting older.

A few years back I fell playing hockey and tore my right rotator cuff when I landed on my right elbow. So for the next few days I had to do everything heavy with my left hand (throwing bales, hauling pails etc.) and developed tennis elbow in my left arm.

So I went to see the doctor who recommended physio and ultrasound treatments followed by icing it. Made a huge difference withing a couple of weeks.

The torn rotator cuff took a year or two and I don't play hockey any more. Live and learn.

Just thought of a joke around this topic - a guy and his girl were going to play a bit of tennis and he had shoved a tennis ball into the pocket of his shorts without his girlfriend seeing him do it. Of course, it made a noticeable lump in his front pocket.

When the young lady saw it she asked "What is that lump in your shorts?"

"Tennis ball", he replied.

"Wow", she says, "That must really hurt. I had tennis elbow one time".

Me too :? . I was given a heavy duty anti-inflammatory as well, but I'm saving it for special... ie calving  .

I'm actually thinking of trying acupuncture... anyone else try this?
