The sun has finally come out, the temperatures are warming up and the grass is greening too. The last few days we have been busy, fencing, moving cows, fencing, moving cows.... DH has done a little field work too, and we have about 1/2 the herd branded and vaccinated. Here's some of what we've been up to the last week or so..

These always bring a smile to my face.

This guy was out enjoying the sun the day we were fixing the fence through the creek bottom.

Lots of water and old grass, and a little new green stuff underneath, makes happy cows.

The last bunch of cows to go out, they just got hauled away today. This was their last bale a couple of days ago.

Thursday I helped a friend move about 200 cows about 12 miles to pasture.
Just hitting the road with the last of them

This little guy was tuckered out after the first half mile. He got a ride in the trailer.

My second ride of the day, and her second of the year... But a good girl, waiting patiently for me after I helped put a calf in the trailer.

Great pictures, randiliana. Looks like the cattle drive was successful, with a wonderful grassy reward at the end of the trail for the bovine participants. The grass in your country is sure ahead of what is growing in this area.

AND all that old grass to top off and protect the new stuff coming up under it!!! Guess it started that way here last year, but never got any rain to keep it going, so looks pretty bleak this year. Tho there have been some good rains in small areas of western SD the last week. The weatherman isn't predicting any help the next few days with temps forecast into the 90's!

Thanks guys! We've had a couple of really wet years, so there is a lot of old grass. If you don't have any old stuff left over from the past couple of years you'd have to be pretty over stocked. It is dry enough though, 1/2-1" of rain would make quite a difference. I was actually quite surprised at how dry the ground is, considering the amount of snow we had. Of course, I realize we are way better off than a lot of you out there! It is supposed to rain a bit in the coming week, so that will be nice.

Neat pictures. I especially like the cowdog in the fifth from last. I'm sure he would be a big help if someone would only let him loose! :D

The fella on the sorrel, did he realize his latigo was dragging? :D

A little half hitch at a lope could be a real "fart knocker".

Your country looks good right now Randi, hope you get some timely rains to keep it coming.
