I went to California last weekend and enjoyed looking at some great cattle. The weather was in the 80's and I almost melted.

Looks like you live worlds apart from your counterparts in California! .... or from here for that matter! Man, it's winter there :shock:
Nice elk, should be good eating for the winter. Did you get any of it?
That's a pretty good looking ole cow in that picture, the kind that will produce many calf pounds year in and year out.

I lent him the gun he shot it with. When I did I told him that all I wanted for lending it to him was an elk steak. Now I'm not sure if I really want any. He tried a steak off it last night and said it was tuff. I told him the gravy's usually even tuff from a big late season elk :D .

That's funny. But yes, if you gotta eat a bull, an opening day bull is generally the best .

That appears to be a pretty safe bet. What do you suppose that cow weighs? Hard to say without anything to compare her to, but she's got lots of middle. I'd guess 1350 lbs?
Anyway, congrats on your purchase.
 
It's nice to see an early start to next year's irrigation supply but I'm still hoping for some fall weather. It snowed here all day Wednesday but was warm enough it didn't accumulate.

Good lookin' cow, good luck with her son.
 
We had about 4" that stuck. I didn't stick till dark, but snowed all day. I heard about 1'6" up around Strausburg. We drove out to Cheyenne Wells, and they had 1.2" of rain, and Burlington had 2" of rain, and then it snowed some in the night. Wheat guys like it, but the guys with corn & beets in the field would welcome some drying weather. Still quite a lot of feed in windrows that are too wet to bale too!
 
Beautiful cow but whats all the green colored stuff around her? :???: Real nice bull elk too! Does a guy have to be amish to come shoot one? Maybe i should look into that religion! :wink:
 
Are you sure you don't want me to use the son of her for 3-4 years just to make sure he will grow out right? :wink: :wink: :wink:

As for the snow, WOW you have winter. We complained about last winter and it didn't start until Nov 4.
