... WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM MST SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

A WINTER STORM WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 5 AM MST SATURDAY THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING.

* AREAS OF SNOW... LIGHT FREEZING DRIZZLE AND FOG WILL RESULT IN DIFFICULT TRAVEL CONDITIONS TONIGHT... THOUGH ANY SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE LIGHT. TRAVELERS SHOULD BE PREPARED FOR LOCALLY SLICK ROADS AND REDUCED VISIBILITY IN FOG.

* SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL IS EXPECTED TO ENTER THE AREA SATURDAY AND PRODUCE THE POTENTIAL FOR NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS INTO SUNDAY NIGHT.

* TOTAL SNOW ACCUMULATIONS OF 8 TO 14 INCHES WILL BE POSSIBLE FROM SATURDAY THROUGH MONDAY MORNING. THE HEAVIEST SNOW ACCUMULATIONS ARE LIKELY TO BE ACROSS NORTHERN PORTIONS OF THE WATCH AREA.

* NORTHWEST WINDS OF 30 TO 40 MPH WILL BE POSSIBLE STARTING SATURDAY NIGHT. THESE WINDS COULD PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW... MAKING WHITEOUT CONDITIONS VERY POSSIBLE THIS WEEKEND.

* TRAVEL MAY BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE BY SATURDAY NIGHT.

* THOUGH SNOW WILL TAPER OFF LATE SUNDAY NIGHT... WINDS WILL REMAIN GUSTY INTO MONDAY RESULTING IN CONTINUED BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW PROBLEMS.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

CONDITIONS CAN DETERIORATE RAPIDLY IN WINTER WEATHER SITUATIONS. SLOW DOWN AND ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN TRAVELING. PRACTICE YOUR WINTER SAFETY RULES. KEEP AN EXTRA FLASHLIGHT... FOOD... AND WATER IN YOUR VEHICLE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY.

More Information
.A MAJOR WINTER STORM WILL IMPACT MUCH OF THE REGION THROUGH SUNDAY. THIS SLOW MOVING STORM SYSTEM WILL BRING PERIODS OF HEAVY SNOW TO ALL OF SOUTHERN MONTANA AND NORTHERN WYOMING. STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS WILL ALSO DEVELOP SATURDAY. THESE STRONG WINDS WILL CREATE NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS OVER PORTIONS OF SOUTH CENTRAL MONTANA... NORTHERN WYOMING AND ALL OF SOUTHEAST MONTANA THROUGH SUNDAY

Yep- its been hanging right over us snowing some all night....But just looking out the door this morning in the dark- it only looks like we picked up 2-3 inchs during the night- and so far only having about a 10 mph NW wind...They are saying 2 more days of snow- and also the wind is supposed to pick up...

But when you look at the highway reports around the state- they definitely don't look good...Lot of our area is ice/black ice-- and I see where all the roads in and out of Miles City are emergency travel only- with much of the interstate over by Billings listed as ice/black ice...

After spending 30 years of having to be on those highways and roads in the worst conditions-and getting called out for the nastiest things that happen during blizzards- I don't miss it a bit when I can just stay home... :-)

We picked up about an inch of snow last night. It rained a little before it turned to wet snow. Roads were a little slick coming home from the basketball game last night. Its not snowing right now and we've got a 14mph west wind this morning. Might be the calm before the storm.

here in western minnesota the temp is 34 and been raining all night. got up at 3am it was gusting winds at 34mph. man if it gets colder it will be a skating rink, looking out it allready is i think.

I saw that this morning too, Justin. We didn't get any snow during the
night and currently it's 30 degrees, overcast, with some wind. Not too bad, yet.
We were to leave to go south for a couple of weeks, but when we heard
the forcast we stayed home to leave after the storm. We figured if we stayed home, the storm wouldn't materialize and if we left, it would.
So we thought we'd be nice to the neighbors and stay put.

It seems like when they predict these things way out, they miss us.
It's the unknown storms that are the worst.

Stay warm, stay safe everyone.
