Neighbor rancher has a trash pile....more construction leftovers than trash.....he told em to burn it...but stay with it till it was out. Well they lit it....but apparently didn't stay with it till it was out. Got away from em yesterday...in a hurry.

Bet this is some good grass next year LOL

Yeah some people do not think.

Had a neighbor lady start up her burn barrels and it got away from her. Lost her chicken house, part of the roof of the barn, the corral's and some winter wheat.
The craziest part is she had the departments fire truck right there. She just forgot how to prime it and run it.
Glad she didn't burn down the building the truck was being stored in.

A few years ago we had nearby a situation similar to that which ILH described. A woman lit her burn barrel right next to the neighbor's wheat field and burned off about 60 acres before it was brought under control. It was ready to harvest, burned the straw right out from under the heads, some of which then actually sprouted in the next few weeks when it rained.

Darned expensive trash that day.

Those pictures and your statement about supposin to watch it reminds of the time i got cross wise with the fire marshall in the hill country, had some meskins cuttin and burnin brush and left em to watch the piles burn, soon as I was outa sight they headed to the cantina.
good luck

PS nuthin like a controlled burn for green come spring tho.

A couple of years ago an elderly neighbor started his burn barrel on a hot dry day and it took off and burned his house. He knew he had a problem when the flames started to come in the porch window. By then it had burned off the phone line so he couldn't call for help so he had to head for the neighbors to get help. I got there just in time to stop the flames about 2' away from an older house. It got the chicken house and almost got the barn too. The loss of the house didn't upset him as much as the loss of the stuff in it, some of which had been his Dads.
