The following pictures depict a tongue-in-cheek look at gentling a heifer, with secrets brought to you by "the heifer whisperer."

Thenextseveralpicturesdepictthetami.jpg

I pull up to a windmill with my pickup, and this heifer clearly shows a fleeing instinct.
ShestoppedIremaincalmandinthepickup.jpg

She stops, and I suppress the urge to jump right out of the pickup.
SheseemscalmIremaininthepickup.jpg

She stands. I give her some time to settle.
Sheslickingherlipswhichisagoodsign.jpg

She is licking her lips, which indicates that she has resigned to the fact that the pickup is on her turf.
Igetoutandagainshewantstoflee.jpg

I quietly get out, and again she wants to flee
Istandverystillhidingbehindmycamera.jpg

I stand very still and hide behind my camera.
Sheisacceptingme.jpg

She is accepting me.
Nowsheswapsendsstillwithaninclinati.jpg

Now she swaps ends, still with an inclination to vanish the premises.
Stillveryalertsheacceptsmeonceagain.jpg

Still very alert, she accepts me once again.
Nowsheiscalmandweareoldbuddies.jpg

Now she is calm, cool, and collected, and we have become old buddies. I now declare her "gentler than she used to be." :-)

:D Now that I know there is a heifer whisper in the area I'll know who to call when a heifer is on the fight and needs help calving. :D Good to know!!

Soap, just my observation... but you seem to be your own best entertainment!!

I'm glad you share it with us! I, also, am entertained!!

It's kind of sad, isn't it. I really should get a life. :-)

it appears that your lack of a life, is our life!

You HAVE a wonderful life and have a very unique way of looking at it. THAT is what is special about you Soap.... You find something special in the all things even the the little things --

I absolutely love it.

Don't stop.

Suddenly, I have a 'new insight' into how Britney, Brangelina (and both 'parental-units') and other 'celebrities' must feel about the paparazzi cameras chasing them around...

Now there ya go.......a new title...."Bovine paparazzi"

Soapweed.....I been wonderin......what did we do with all our "spare" time before we carried camera's? Did we finish our chores sooner? or did we just spend more time out lookin at the cows? LOL
Speakin for myself, I think I spend just as much time out there lookin and drivin thru em as I do now....I just didnt have my camera with me.

Oh....and anytime you get ready you can send me some of them "gentled down, whisper'd to heifers" I'll take em.

Ya know..the sandhills can be a pretty quiet and lonely place at times...and when all yur friends are off doing their thing...the only companion may be a camera and bovine...which in my book is the best way to have it...course now maybe Soapweed needs to get out a little more than some of us..lol Just kidden!

It would appear that this might be Soapweed's pictorial answer to the "mangler's" techniques in handling cattle!

'Got to hand it to ya Soapy, this is a very illustrative essay on how to approach a critter without brute force or.... copious quantities of Copenhagen!

Heck, a few more frames and I'll bet she'd be eating the copenhagen out of your hand.

I absolutely love it.

Don't stop.

:agree:

Oh, and don't stop handling cattle the way you do.
Remember the first time you put photos on of how you load your
bulls when you are getting them out of the cows? So many unbelievers...
but since then, Soap, I think you have followers and that is just great!!

TTB worked with Curt Pate last week making a DVD about how to handle cattle with care at the sale ring.

Too bad AZ isn't available to watch the video, especially after he sounded off about what Curt DIDN'T know. (BTW--I don't think anyone is in demand for demonstrating how to stomp on a cow--with or without
the Copenhagen eye trick.)

LOL!!!!!!! Love your picture story, Soap............great shots as always, and such an interesting subject! I should bookmark that or something, since we're looking "off the ranch" for Al's next year's bovine projects in 4-H........he may need a little guidance.........

"gentler than she used to be."
Soap, you really do know how to make a person giggle,
I love the pictures of this and other topics, great work!
