Couple weeks ago a friend of mine from Idaho brought me two (2) six week old Border Collie female pups...love em to death..cutest things ya seen on 4 legs...I'm not trying for the house breaking thing tho just got my wiener dog past all that and not ready to attempt that again..wiener dogs are HARD!!! to housebreak. But anyway these two are "Ericson"?? bloodlines..sposed to be extremely good, smart, quick to learn. and so far so good....they both respond to their names and one is already sitting on command. I gotta link to a website last night on training border collies...be interesting to see how well it works.

The Ericson pups should be excellent. He is a fine breeder and trainer. He also does some pencil sketchs that are awesome! I don't know if he still does those, but I found some years ago and still have them.

Hey Chuckie! I said I would never raise another pup, :roll: also, and my husband quietly reminds me on occasion. I tried one dog from the Humane Society here and she was so friendly, she would get in with anybody so I tried one from the Heeler Rescue. She was so antagonistic with everyone that I was afraid someone was going to get hurt. She ran the UPS driver up into his truck. So I have a pup. I've learned never say never but I agree with you on everything you say. My old heeler/chow is the best dog I ever had and he came from the Humane Society. He is getting pretty stoved up and does not hear people coming in the drive which I want. A 76 year old woman neighbor about 3 miles south in the country had her throat slit a few months ago and I want to know when someone is coming. We are having problems with the gangs in this county which is really scary.
I truly belive in using rescue dogs as they are housebroke and partially trained but I should have never drove the 50 miles to see what a Corgi/heeler mix pup would look like. I was hooked. The lady who raised her said she could have sold 20 of this combination so she may have another accident in 6 months a she normally raises purebred Corgi's and Heelers.
It is hot here in Colorado today but I guess it is July. The pneumonia seems to be improving today but it has been the pits.

anyway.....my dog is crate trained, but that don't keep her from pissing in the house. I may try the whole outside barking thing...and see if that helps. I am away from the house for like 10 hours a day and i don't trust enough to leave her in the yard all that time in this Texas heat and with people driving around to swipe her. So I put her in one of my bathrooms for the time being until she can control her bladder like my 5 year old border collie then she can run free in the house. Besides...I seen a flea last night so i've got a whole new set of problems....haha......... :wink:

Fleas are easy! Just call your vet a visit and ask about Frontline, Advantage, or Revolution. Depending on how often you bathe her, all of them are good up to 60 days, maybe even 90. I personally never had good luck with Frontline and used Advantage (Revolution was new at that time, and I was wary). I put it on them and, within 24 hours, no flea problem, unless you have a major infestation in the house. Advantage runs about 10.00/treatment/dog, not sure about the others. Be careful with the Revolution if she has not been tested for heart worms. Revolution also treats for heartworms, and intenstinal (sp?) parasites. If she is positive for heart worms, it can cause major damage - like death.

You are also wise not to leave her in the backyard for 10 hours a day when you are gone! Puppies cannot regulate their temperature yet, so they are much more suseptible (sp?) to heat stroke and there is always the chance someone will steal her. Or she may dig out and get hit by a car or otherwise hurt or killed.

Carol, not a problem! I'm glad the information was helpful! I found a book many years ago about training dogs. It was written by an order of priests that bred, trained and sold German Shepherds to supplement their income and it was THE best book about dogs I have ever found. Unfortunately, my dumba#@ husband loaned it out and I never got it back. I cannot remember the name or who wrote it, but I bought it at Waldenbooks I believe. I would think any major bookstore would be able to find it.

Go online -Google - check out Priests Training German Shepards - or similar headings. I am sure you can find the book your poor suffering husband inadvertently loaned out trying to be helpful and a good friend and a good person trying to assist a fellow human being in dire need, and -oh - what a bunch of hooee. Tell you husband to go buy another book because he was stupid enough to loan the first one out and didn't retrieve it. Or - make him go to the guy he loaned it to and say, "Hey, give me the stupid book back, or my wife will come over here and kick some Boo-tee!" That might work! :shock: :lol: :lol:
