I was helping my neighbor start some chuckwagon horses today-it's about as far away from driving a chore team as s...t is from wild honey. The first horse we hooked was a future wheeler-he bucked for probably ten minutes while we harnessed Timon the big Percheron anchor-he drove alright once we got him hooked. the second horse was a leader he threw a wild horse fit so we drove them into a slough-that chilled him out a bit. The last horse was supposed to be bad for kicking at the tugs-Ross braided his tail and we tied it to his halter and that seemed to occupy him a bit-why I don't know. He bowed up a bit too but a few minutes out in the slough took his mind off things. Those big TB's are different dudes that's for sure-I'm not much help but I try and stay out of the way.

We were hooking the TB's up with my neighbors Percheron's-my other neighbor and I have used my Belgians too. Those wagon ponies can throw quite a fit and the old chore horses keep them put. When we broke my chore horses they were making three mile round trips with hay so got to know what sweaty harness was all about.
