For those of you who get the History channel, you might want to watch a show that will air on the 27 of November, titled Comanche Warrior. I think it airs at 5 pm or there abouts.

It was filmed in South Dakota and is about the Comanches and Quahana(sp) Parker.

You might even notice a familar face! :)

The Comanche tribe is headquartered in SW Oklahoma...with
many, many tribal members in this area. They are doing pretty
well with their casino and bingo halls now.

the casting director swept through this area when they were looking
for extras for the movie The Last of the Mohigians. They took bus
loads of folks from around here back to North Carolina where they
were filming.

Texas history, in particular, is full of eye-opening, shocking tales
in the period when the white people were moving into the
Comanche territory.

Quanah Parker's house is just west of Lawton, OK. He was a pretty
well known cattleman in the area called the "Big Pasture" before
okla statehood in 1907.

Jinglebob,
At which part of the show shall we expect to see "A FAMILIAR FACE"?
We don't want to miss it!!

Sorry nr, I just found that you had asked a question. I ain't real sure, but I'm going to watch it in about 5 minutes and then I'll know for sure!

Ok i just watched the last hour of that show....I didn't see anyone I recognize, but it was kinda interesting. I liked the country side. Palo Duro canyon is just north of me a ways....I sure didn't realize they shot 1400 horses down in there. What a waste. But that was the way of the west in them days i guess.

Ava Doty lives in Walters, Okla; I'm acquainted with several of
her family. Very nice folks. She is the lady related to Quannah
Parker.

OK Big Boy that was pretty good. They gave you quite alot of scenes. Of course why wouldn't they? By nature you are a handsome people. At first I had to point you out to the Mrs. But by the end of the show she was picking you out real well.

Congrats Cowboy.

Golly Jinglebob, are you signing autographs?
Were you under a hat in a group of men standing around while they talked about Texas Rangers after the talk about white women stolen by the Indians? There was only that one scene where we thought we saw you and your mustache. Couldn't pick you out on horseback. Our fickle VCR wasn't working so can't go back
And the credits ran impossibly fast.
We were impressed, as we're sure you were, with the similarity in which the Indians and hubby and myself ride bareback
Anyway, what was your experience being in the cast? How many re-takes etc? Was it filmed anywhere on your property?
The History Channel does so many re-runs we hope to find you better next time.

If there is a rerun post it on Ranchers. I missed last nights showing and would love to try to pick Jinglebob out. At the next Ranchers get together we will have to ask for his autograph!!!

Feeder, after meeting JingleBob in Sep we all should have known he was destined for sparkling stardom and should have had the forethought to get his autograph, right? :???: Hindsight is so great.

nr, I'm so glad I had the opportunity to shake his hand at Deadwood!!!! I hope stardom doesn't change his wonderful personality!!

Geez feeder I hope you've washed that hand by now :!:
It was good I just checked in and read that it was on so went to TV and caught the last half. Thought I saw you a couple of times but as usual you were fighting for the wrong side. Hope to catch it in reruns so can see the whole show. Good job JB. :cowboy:

Yup, you are right BMR, I was fightin' for the wrong side, tho' if I'd have lived back then, I probably would have been a renegade! I've often said that we who live and work on this land are the new "indians". We've got what the majority want and they are coming after it and if we aren't carefull, they will get it!

As for stardom, how are you going to make a star of someone with no speaking parts and who isn't even very recognizable in amongst the cast?

It was filmed south west of us at the Black Hills wild horse sanctuary, down by Hot Springs. Some was filmed on a private ranch near Hermosa(the buffalo scenes).

They had filmed at Palo Duro Canyon and the country looked very similar to where the rest of the show was shot.

Yes nr, that was me in the side shot with the other fellers. We were representing Captain Jack Crawford and his men, prior to going out to attack the Comanches. They were few men and had to gewt pretty wicked and wild, to survive against the odds, they were attacking. They used the same methods as the Comanches and wanted to promot fear amongs the enemy.

There were so few of us who were the extras, that they were trying to save everyones face for special characters and scenes, so in many of the scenes we tried to keep our backs to the camera's. I was saved for a scene as a Comanchero, but they didn't hardly use my boots. Instead I was one of the group of Texas Rangers. Also a sargent in the calvary. I was usually beside the man with the small flag. My horse was usually in the lead in the charge scenes unless I was holding him up as he didn't like to go slow while there was all the gun fire! I rode and shot off from my horse and directed the troops under my command, in the scene where they were shooting the horses.

As for my signiture on a peice of paper, for the right amount of money (to be donated to my favorite charity) I would be happy to do it for anyone!

I went for the money. Fame don't pay the bills well.

Incidently, Saddle Tramp loaned me many items to be used, such as clothes, guns and gear. Many thanks ol' pard!

By the way, we filmed the first part of October and I recieved the check for the work Saturday.

Got to meet a lot of good people and we did have fun!

For any of you calvary re-enactors, they will probably be filming a shoot for the BBC in this area in the spring. Get in touch with me if you are interested in low pay, miserable conditions and having to put up with "hollywood" types!

I did think that the show turned out well and about the only thing that wasn't right about the show was a few of the indians were using modern bits instead of a jaw rope. All of the other props were as they would have been at the time period. Well, OK, maybe some of the guys were wearing the wrong kind of underwear!

Fat Indians, too. My husband remarked on that.

JingleBob HOW did you keep this a secret since October, especially from all of us?

Don't think there weren't fat indians in the "old days". The older ones (probably from about 30 years old on up) were called the big bellies. :?

As for keeping it quiet, there were a few who post and read this site, who knew about it. I didn't want anything said until I was sure the show would be aired. So many times these deals don't work out for one reason or the other. No sense telling people about things that are supposed to happen, yet don't.

I was in a show called Spirit of the Cowboy, that was shot here on the ranch and around this area, years ago. I was amazed that they would shoot all day for 5 minutes of film time. Gives you a better understanding what john Wayne and them others had to go thru'!
