I was feeding in the dark last night, went to cut wrap off a bale and the blade was gone, must have lost it cutting strings on the previous bale. They keep trying to make them safer, it's a Kobalt from Lowes, you push the button on the top and the blade slides out. Watch out for it, not a good thing for the beeves to be eating.

Ben I had the same thing happen about 2 weeks ago cutting the excess bag from the silage. Not a lowe's brand. I could not find the blade that broke but rather than see a cow suffer from ingesting it I took and trashed about 6 ton of loose silage.

I looked all over for it but like the saying it was like looking for a needle in a hay stack.

Ben you posted A good heads up because can one imagine the damage to a cows mouth from one of these!

I guess it could be the Chinese inferior product being as we manufacture nothing much here any more.

Two words for ya fella's......... Pocket Knife! Only been around for a century or so. Get a couple and a sharpener. Learn how to keep it sharp. After a week, you'll feel completely naked without it with ya! No more lost razor blades to kill cows.

i guess i'll comment-----u guys discussing the damage to a cows mouth,
it reminded me of a time in the midwest while we were unloading a steel grain bin and returned back from town for another load.it was about 20 degrees below 0----a cow had left a nice tongue print of her tongue\with the skin still on the elevator from trying to get a little extra grain.only seen it happen once in thirty years.like put'n yur tongue on a pump handle,in twenty below.never did find the cow it happen to. :(

My current pocket knife is a Kershaw Ken Onion assisted opening, no seration. I've also been using these folding utility knives for years, always keep one in my jacket pocket, easier to replace blades then having to keep sharpening my good knife. This is the first time I've lost a blade. Ironically it's the newer "safer" design.

Ben if you have a Harbor freight ,buy the small skinning knife. It has two holes for your fingers to fit in, a curved round end with a razor blade in it that's great for cutting twine with, just pull through the bale, works great and only $6 bucks.
