Wanting an opinion

We have ALOT of snakes here!! Spring is the worst, they start coming out to get warm. They young ones are the worst because they don't care where they go to get warm. I get several a year up on the concrete patio. Summer when it gets hot they are usually up under things so we just be careful when moving anything.
My son brought some king snakes out and turned them loose a couple of years ago and that seemed to help keep the bad snakes down a bit. We have the sidewinders here in this part of the desert.
My dogs get bit every year but never had one die. An old man told me years ago to give them goat's milk if they get bit so I do. Don't know if that is what saves them or if they are just immune to snake bites by now!
I had never heard about the moth balls, but I think I'll try that around the patio before spring!

Welllll...it's warm enough here today for the ' rattlers' to be out sunning themselves as I just blasted one to SnakeHeaven!!!!

You better grab some of that snakebite medicine--just seeing one sometimes can require it....

I thank all of you for your input. I've never lived around rattle snakes so they seem extremely scary to me. It's a hard call when you finally find a property that will work for you and the thing holding you back is fear of rattlesnakes.

If that's the only thing holding you back, I'd go for it :D . I don't care for snakes either, but plenty of people seem to live around them just fine.

Good luck!

Just a related story; I was archery hunting deer 15 or so years ago. I'd climbed high into a basin before light and had watched a couple good bucks bed for the day. I was waiting on the breeze to stabilize before attempting a stalk and i noticed a doe with two fawns coming down a trail near me. Suddenly the old doe stopped and stared at the ground in front of her. After a minute or so she made her fawns back up aways. Then she went right to where she'd been. Then she'd jump up and come down with all four feet right together. After doing that 5 or 6 times she gathered up her fawns and went on her way. I went over to the dance site and found a neatly sliced and diced rattler!

Hey CattleArmy, used to be we noticed alot of snakes when we went to the place down on the Niobrara on horseback....but then replaced the horses with ATVs and don't even notice (or hear) them anymore.  All the luck in the world with your deal! I'll bet you probably could argue a snake to death.
