Weather

.LONG TERM...WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY...
A SHORTWAVE ORIGINATING FROM SIBERIA WILL DROP SOUTH THROUGH
ALASKA AND BRITISH COLUMBIA ON WEDNESDAY AND REACH THE SEATTLE
AREA ON THURSDAY. THIS WILL BRING AN ARCTIC COLD FRONT SOUTH
ACROSS MONTANA DURING THE DAY ON THURSDAY. MODELS ARE IN DECENT
AGREEMENT WITH THIS COLD AIR PLUNGE WHICH WILL KEEP TEMPERATURES
BELOW ZERO FOR THE MOST PART THROUGH THE WEEKEND.

I guess we'll have to let the Canucks off the hook this time-- Blame the Ruskies....
We're up to a balmy -22 :?
Really didn't feel as bad this morning doing chores because there is little wind now...Dang wind is what is so bitter...

Yeah, the forecast here reflects another arctic blast next weekend.

6 below here tonight and to add insult to injury, about 5 inches of snow is on tap for tomorrow, thankfully the wind is forecast to be nonexistent. I'm thinking tomorrow night will be a good night to watch A Christmas Story...you'll shoot your eye out kid!

Weatherman this morning said this is going to be a once in 15-20 year cold snap. I don't think we've had more than a dozen 60 below days in the last ten years.
I remember as an eight year old kid my Dad leaving an old Ford 9N running for three weeks, when it warmed up to 40 below it felt almost tropical.

Yep- back in the 50's before all the 4 wheel drives Dad had an old Chevy 3/4 Ton pickup that he used to feed bales off of...He stuck 17 or 18 inch wheels on it to give it more clearance- and then chained it up with some big grip chains to get around in the snow....During one cold snap he left it running for a week or two so he could be sure he had something....

The bad thing was that even when the schoolbus didn't run--Dad would usually get us thru to school- bouncing down the road with those chains on at 15-20 mph-- shoveling out the drifts he couldn't break thru with a scoop shovel...It really had to be wicked before he would let us miss school....

Hubby said when he got to work this mornin at 5 am it was 70 degrees...he walked in the front door of the prison....thru the building to the tunnel goin to his building, and when he walked outside it was 40 degrees. Now that's weather changin fast LOL In a matter of just a few minutes.

Not near as cold as you all up north...but it's plenty cold enough for me.

I vaguely remember Christmas time back in 1983 (hey I was 10 at the time), I cann't remember how many consecutive hours the temp was below zero and that was in SW Iowa.

yeah dave that was my first winter here too dad was at rock meadow feeding cows with the ys they burnt up one tractor a 135 massey and never shut the tractors off for 4 weeks .luckily we are now geared up for that type of weather now it hit minus 50 before the themometer broke

Woke up to another 5 inches of snow this morning,on top of the 12-14 from the night before,it just decided to start dumping here.Sittin' at about +10 this morning, thats cold for us Californians :frowns: Suppose to keep snowing for the next two days before a break  .Tractor decided mabye to take some time off. :(

-25 here this morning...Now up to -6...
A winter related story was that BNSF had a major train derailment (probably because of the weather) late Sunday night just inside the ND border near Williston - 25 grain cars loaded with corn- that tore up a bunch of track...

My son got called to take a work train to the derailment yesterday-spent last night there- and said that BNSF brought in 3 construction crews of Cats and Loaders- one out of Moose Jaw, one out of Gillette, and the other out of Havre....
He commented that the smart ones were the Havre crew- that stopped in Glasgow and pulled their trucks into one of the farm equipment shops and warmed them up- started them- and left them running the next 100 miles to the site....He said the other crews had a terrible time trying to get theirs warmed and started..

They got the tracks cleared and open this morning around 5AM-- but he said there is corn everywhere....
