Saw a set of 30 pregged open angus heifers at the barn weigh 1030 and bring $1. Short solid March calving angus cows brought $600.

I went to Three Forks bred cow sale yesterday and the top cows brought around 900 but most went for under 800. The deal of the sale was seven head of 3 and 4 year old purebred herefords bred back to hereford bulls for 475. these were real framey good looking cows too. I would of bought them but didn't have my financing lined out ahead of time.

The only bred sale I was at was a registered angus one-- and the bred heifers sold for an average of $1600--which was off about $400 from last year...All I wished was that I had some extra hay (since the hail wiped me out) or else I would have owned a few of them.....
Not much for bred heifers moving around here yet (probably be in December) but the shorttermers and mid aged are way down too...

The heifers at the JKG sale, or whatever the name is, Goggin's son's place, brought pretty good money according to the sale report. Even the young cows brought up to $900 if I remember right.
We bought a truck load of young to mid aged cows at the beginning of the month and averaged around $925. We bought a couple of groups of 3 to 5 year olds and had to pay a bit for them, but we also picked up some older cows, 5 to 8, in groups of 5 for around $800.
Had close to 100 head of straight bred Herefords that came in and went for next to nothing for the kind of cows they were. Real moderate, survivor type of cattle. The bred heifers brought like $750 if they were lucky. Could have put about 30 head of mid aged cows togehter for about $500 a head. Pretty sad, if I had some money and a place to put them they would have been the deal of the day for me.
Best deal I made was buying two Angus cows that averaged 1740 lbs each for $725 a piece. Even at slaughter price I can break even or make some money, I think, if prices don't hit rock bottom!!

If you don't think that Canadian cows coming south of the border is affecting our cull cow prices then your ignorant. Over the past few years we've developed a domestic cull cow market and now it is diminshing. Don't give me the BS about other factors, this is one we can control and should.

Unless you have nothing else in your house other than American Made products then don't jump on our trade partners.

But if you try to build a fence remember the great wall in China - - - I love it when I get a good price for my work but anything other than free trade will only give short term benefits and will cause problems for us - - or possibly we can hold it off till our children or grand children pay the price for our stupidity.
Yes NAFTA has not been all in our favor but we live in a world wide economy and it gets more so every day. We are just getting back to the free trade we had with Canada prior to the mad cow scare and let us pray we never end up where they were.

I might be paying $1,500 for some registered black Angus heifers bred to calve in Feb/ March. It looks like that's a descent price from what I've been reading, but sounds like a lot to me. I found this in Canada: http://www.blackharvest.ca/sales.htm, might have to ship them up there . :shock:

I think mr. FH is going to sell 25 or 30 straightbred black Angus heifers this fall. They aren't AI bred, but they are bred to the same Wye bred Angus bulls as the heifers we had last year and those all calved unassisted. They are sure nice moderate framed easy-fleshing heifers with nice dispositions.

We just sold ours. They topped out at $1500 and averaged around $1250

in bred heifer sale last week. Bred to half brother, calving ease Angus bulls for 75 days. Brought $925 to $1010 per hd. Sold for $1100 last year but there is just not any one around with hay supplies for the winter. Getting alot of rain in the last month, to bad it didn't get here till the growing season was over.
