I sit here reading and thinking how can you say it is NOT the teachers responsibility to keep our children safe? Yes, I agree that it should be harder to get to our kids in schools. But, as I said before we were trained on Safety which in our times was fires and tornados...now we need to train our kids how to handle terroistic threats within the school, THAT means we have to train our School personel and teachers how to control situations, and hopefully some of what has happened can get detoured before it ever happens again. Like the kid in MO, that one was detoured only by accident because the kid missed his shot first, but the personel acted on it. Yes, I agree that parents have some degree to do with the problems, but not all is our fault. The environment is shaping our kids, and if we can not control that what do we do? AS Mrs. Greg said with adults entering the schools the last times, I think if we make it harder for ANYONE to enter the school then that takes care of that. And, again put the kids in uniforms so you can look across and see who does not belong. I know the kids hate it, but that takes care of a lot of issues, one being who doesnt belong, the other being as kids can not compare and chastize another if they are not wearing the latest fashionable clothes....taking care of that mental issue of low self esteem, I know there will always be someone not having what others do but, it has been proven that the uniform has transformed some of the worse schools attitudes in general. There are so many issues to address to correct...but, just reading this board we can all say we see the problems now just have to get involved in helping to address them. Quit talking and get out there and help, volunteer to mentor to kids in difficulty..those of you that do not have kids. Volunteer with after school programs and lets make a difference in our at risk children.
Okay I am done, I wont add anymore pennies to this conversation. I think we all know that the idea is that we need to do something to protect and help our kids in a learning environment.
