What the heck is a shelly cow????

I've seen this term used a few times on here and was just wondering. Is it an actual term to describe a certain type of cow, or should I let my paranoia run rampant and think it's a term used that was derived from some of the cows I have owned in my time and maybe have spoken about on here?

Shelly Cow: An old cow, usually in poor condition.

Sorry Shelly, I should have used a different term such as "an old selling cow." I am sure that you are a beautiful lady. It is a pretty name that I shouldn't have cast a poor light upon. My apologies.

Thanks for clearing that up. By the looks of the picture, I own an "almost" shelly cow. She calved this past Sunday, last calf for her. She'll be headed to market come fall. (And yes, I am not real happy about it. I have a major soft spot for her.) Up here, we just classify them as D1, D2, D3, or D4. D4 being comparable to what you down south call shelly cows.
