I am just curios as to what type of cameras everyone uses. In looking through this board, I have noticed a lot of great pictures, but what amazes me is the conditions the cameras have to endure. Is everyone using point and shoot small cameras you can stick in your pocket, or big fancy DSLR cameras, or something in the middle?

I guess I am just wondering what types of cameras can survive the conditions.

I'm using a D-480 Olympus point and shoot. Older model. Sucks up the battery juice, but takes good photos, is light weight and has a sliding cover to protect the lens.

4.0 Megapixals, 3X Optical Zoom, 12X Digital Zoom

This is D'
I have a Nikon DSL 6 mega pix camera with a small lens and a 200 zoom. Would like to get a 400 zoom. I have taken it with me on the back of my horse. I also know of two other ladies that take alot of pics off the backs of horses and they both have DSL's (old 35mm) as well as DSL digitals.
Long as you have a good bag to carry them in and a horse that will stand they do just fine.

I use a digital Canon Elph on the horse (very small and tough, long bettery life). It has been all over the world with me.
I just bought a Pentax DSLR with shake reduction. It is dust and moisture sealed and Pentax makes good lenses. Still experimenting with that one.

Thanks for all of the replys. I would have figured everyone would be using the Elph sized cameras, but some of the detail and lighting situations made me wonder if they were something more.

I use a shirt pocket sized Panasonic LumixDMC-FS3 Don't know much abut it but takes not bad shots has a rechargeable battery that last real good.

My daughter uses a Panasonic Lumix with 18X optical zoom modelDMC-FZ18.

It's more the size of a 35mm but not a long lens for the zoom it has.

Oh yea about $400 dollars difference in price.

The camera I use is a Sony Super Steady Shot DSC-T100, 8.1 mega pixels, with a 5x zoom. It fits in a front shirt pocket, and measures 3 3/4" x 2 3/8" x 3/4". It's a handy size, though a bit heavier than some of the pocket models.

Mine's a Sony Cybershot DSC-H7. Has 15x optical zoom, and a lot of options for different light and scenery situations. I really do like it. Doesn't fit in my pocket though

Canon Powershot SX10IS, had a Sony Cybershot til it broke it really didn't do too well with long distance shots. Like my Canon much better.

I use a Nikon Coolpix S210. Its 3 1/2" X 2 1/8" X 3/4" fits in a shirt pocket along with my tally book. 8 megapixles and 3x zoom. I am willing to trade a little on quality to be able to carry the camera with me to get those pictures that otherwise would be missed. I also use an Olympus C-720 but its too large to carry along all the time but it has a lot more Zoom

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-S600 6 mega pixels. My first digital camera and it does pretty good, it's capabilities and functions are far beyond my understanding :( Runs through batteries pretty quick if you are using the zoom a lot or it is very cold outside.

If you buy the rechargeable batteries, with the charger....I think it's like $20. My camera takes 4 AA's, and I can charge them, and use them for a couple months without havin them go dead. I take lots and lots of pictures, plus video alot too. Really get your money's worth outta them rechargeables. In the last 3 years...I've only bought 8 batteries.

I use a Nikon Coolpix S4. It has 10X zoom and works good for taking pasture pics from quite a little distance. It has taken quite a bit of abuse too. It takes 2 AA batteries. 4 rechargebles came with it and I usually can take 200 to 350 pictures on one charge.

I have a Kodak, Fuji, and Sony digital. I really like the Sony. However I still like being able to just pack the kodak that is a point and shoot. The fugi is my least favorite.

I also have a cannon that you use film with that has the huge lens and such. It is a great camera it's just I prefer the picking and choosing which to print that the digital ones give.

Most of my camera 'education' has come from this site! First got a Sony DSC-H2, 6megapixels, 12x digizoom. That takes great photo's and has more capabilities than I've been able to figure out how to use. It's also too bulky, like a 35mm, to carry horseback.

Got a smaller Sony cybershot which could be carried in a shirt pocket. Unfortunately, it was knelt upon by a small girl while we both were attempting to catch a falling drink bottle in the pick-up cab and the lens jammed. After taking it to a camera shop and learning that it would cost almost what we paid for it to send it in for an estimate on cost of repair, bought a new one.

Got to thinking there was nothing to lose, so forced the lens back in.....and it works! So am giving it to a family member who didn't have one.

The new one is a Sony DSC-W150, 8.1megapixel, 5x optizoom which also takes good pictures.

Now, all I have to do is find time to figure out how to post pictures. Have managed to print off some great ones from a wagon train trek last summer, so one of these days.......

It is fun to read about the different cameras other use, likes and problems, and especially enjoy seeing photo's from different parts of the countries members' are ranching and living in. Thanks for taking the time to share them with us.
