Picked peas yesterday evenin from the garden. A 5 gallon bucket FULL!!!! Shelled em all last night...and now my fingers is sore. LOL But worth it.

Bring your peas over and I'll shell them for you.

Some pickers hit my peas Sat & Sun and I shelled them faster than they could pick.

The Cream peas are turning out OK, but the Pink-Eye Purple Hulls aren't filled out very well because of the drought & heat. We need rain bad.

Our sheller holds 4 five gallon buckets full of peas and takes about 10 minutes......................

I used one of those shellers one time. And it'll sure spoil ya quick to not wantin to sit and shell em by hand. Maybe I can talk Mr Lilly into buildin me one. LOL

We have two rows of cream peas that aren't makin yet. They have a few blooms on em. But no peas as of yet.

This is the first time we've planted this variety of peas. They were called Pink eyes. Not purple hull....but close to the same. Only thing is..like you said, some of them aren't filled out real well. And I don't like how they shell. Not near as easy as a good ole blackeyed pea, the hull feels gooey/sticky. I think from now on I'll stick to the blackeyes.

If you want an easier "hand" shelling pea, plant some "Zipper" peas. Those pods are so full of peas, that the ends of the pea itself are flat. They want to "Pop" out of the hull.

A "Mississippi Purple" Crowder pea is an easy shelling one too. They turn dark brown when you cook them and make a dark pot liquor. Good, good.

By the way, hot dry weather makes the hulls gooey and soft with not much pea in them.

Jassy, there are 1000's of varieties of "Southern Cowpeas".

Mama used to open a can of em....can't remember the name...silver label, Leflur or somethin like that. Nuff to make ya gag soon as the lid rose up.
