I know wher JB was comming from, and I found the point rather funny. Myself, I have the great opertunity to meet lots folks from all over, and have learned lots how they do things. rather its ropin a sick calf from a horse, or from a jeep ( you know who ya are  ) not for one minute did it mean they are farmers, its just what was handy at the time. Heck i can recall one time while feedin cows I spotted a ol cow calvin with the du-claws facin the sky, wich anybody knows is trouble. At the time all I was armed with was a John Deere 4030, feed wagon,a crow bar and baler twine  wich was more than enuff to do the job. In a act of geinus or maybe lazyness to go back and git a horse... I drove along side the cow... pinned her to the ground usin the hydrolic arm that picks up the bale... the crow bar stuck in the ground for leverage and doubled up twine for OB chains .... I deliverd a 90lb bouncin baby bovine ( mother and baby both did fine)
I recall when I walked away from that project I thot to myself " I sure Farmerd that one" but it worked.
I also had a neighbor once he ran better than 600 cows in common with the Association, durin sortin time he would often be seen sortin cows at his back gate with motorcycles, a 77 chevy pickup and even a foot. I often wonderd why he would put on such a rodeo sortin cows and not use a horse..... then 1 day I had the chance to ride with him on the back ride gatherin the last of the cows off the range... It became apperent to me he couldnt ride a stick horse across a plowed feild, and was pretty much uselss help.. but by no means was he a Farmer. in fact i dont think he had a tractor that actully run.
I dont know why people that "farm" git ther pannys in a wad over a discussin such as this
Im even guilty for my past opinons of Farmers, I used to have narrow minded opinoins such as " farmers have cows so they dont have to suffer the indignity of bein just a farmer" or " they got a few cows so they got something else to talk about at the coffe shop"
But time and meetin differnt folks from all over has healed me of my wicked ways
They got cows cause it fits ther operation, a few extra $$ at the sale barn is nice also.( even if they are wearin bib overalls) AG people are all good folks, same good livin values.
In closin.... I dont ever remember playin " Farmers and Indians" as a kid, John wayne never wore bibs or drove a tractor, Feed and Co-oP ball caps arent excatly GQ or photogenic. dont mean they aint hard werkin folks
