Back in 1944, Dewey, on his campaign for president, stoped in Valentine. School was let out that day. A T Bracket the store keeper in Kilgore, arranged a ride for my brother and I on the Ross Truck to Valentine. The driver was Andy Koraleski. To attract a crowd there was a rodeo that day. The first rodeo I had watched. Benny Bender was the clown, and he participated in bulldogging.
Cherry County had supended fairs and rodeos during the war years, so this was pretty well attended.
