The neighbor stopped by just now. Another neighbor and him have been riding through the cows pretty much daily. This last week they have found 3 confirmed wolf kills. One calf and two yearling steers. They are now waiting for a kill permit which they are suppose to get with 2 confirmed wolf kills. Yesterday he was right in the middle of a pack along with a game dept guy and the DA. They wanted him to accompany them back to the vehicle because he was packing and they weren't. Those who brought the wolves in should be turned loose up in those hill unarmed.
 
Shooting them off isn't easy. Calling works at first on the young and dumb.
Government up here looks at ranchers and people as the problem. Grizzly and wolves can do no wrong.
Certain groups of people are favored and I'm not in that liked group.
 
They claim there are only 137 wolves in Oregon. I think they are lying. More like 1370. The introduction of the wolf was just another way to destroy the rural west and the livestock industry.
 
Levi said one of the yearling steers was still alive when they found it. They way he said it, I took it that it was injured bad enough that they put it down. The last two they found because the Game Dept pinged the wolves. Both the Alpha male and female are collared so they can locate them. He said that yesterday he was within 40 feet of a pup. I questioned that it was still alive. That was when he was with the powers to be so shooting was out of the question. But between the alphas, yearlings, and pups there was at least 9 wolves. Two dead cows they are supposed to get a kill permit. This was 3 in a week and they have been doing everything according to the book
 
The early ranchers eradicated wolves for a reason. These eco-terror groups pushing the comeback are using wolves as a hammer to pound ranchers into extinction. A USFS idiot brought two Mexican Grey Wold advocates out here and they went into our local store where several ranchers, one of which was my dad, were having coffee. They ordered breakfast and began preaching the benefit wolves would bring if reintroduced. My dad listened quietly as the wolf lovers spewed their nonsense. Dad finally had a gut full and asked why in the hell would anyone with any level of sanity would support such a stupid plan? The head USFS guy puffed way up and said in a condescending tone, "Wolves are part of American history"!
My 6' 5" dad looked him in the eye And icily said- " So was Polio you bastard, are ya bringing it back too?"
The three stooges took their breakfast to go.

Good for your dad. If there were more like him, maybe they wouldn't have paid Canada $2500 for each wolf the US bought. I always said the Canadians were laughing their heads off at the USA. Now look what is happening.
You are right 'H and though I don't know your dad, I'm proud of him.
 
The important thing to know about IMPORTED wolves in Oregon is they are not protected under the Federal or State Endangered species act or in any way other than the Oregon Wolf Plan. What many don't understand is even as unconstitutional as the plan is, you can shoot a wolf anywhere in defense of human life. You can shoot a wolf on your property if you see it around your livestock and have reason to believe it is going to attack them. Even this can be tricky and one should have a healthy bank account and a well-versed lawyer that hates wolves. The burden of proof is on you and while the law asked only for a preponderance, you best have a without a doubt case.

Where the problem comes in is wolves are usually on state or federal land where livestock are grazing legally. You have no rights in such cases and must follow the plan which Webfoot's neighbor has. So here is the deal, when you jump through their hoops and dance to the organ (Oregon) grinder (she resembles our governor) and these liberal college-educated idiots GRANT you a kill permit, they tell you how many wolves can be killed. Usually, it is 2. Killing two wolves in a pack of 9 is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

The below link has Manning Creek, Webfoot's area, as a confirmed kill by the Lookout Mountain pack. I will be interested to see how many the kill permit allows and if the rancher can kill or if it has to be the game specialist.

Read the report of the steer. All the multiple bites and wounds. How can any human be so brain dead to say this is alright and acceptable as natural but the quick kills in slaughterhouses are barbaric and inhumane?

When I lived in the mountains above WF, 1970-80s, it was a common belief that wolves had been eradicated from the area by the 1940s, yet I had a pack of 5 native small gray timbers above my cabin. They did fine living on the game until logging and forest fires reduced the deer population. After finding a dead calf with the Sullivan brand on it, I went down and got Jack the State Trapper and cattle rancher and he straightened me out that these were wild dogs, not wolves because wolves were extinct in Oregon. He didn't want the government wildlife or forest Service getting involved over a wild dog case so he swore me and another that knew to secrecy and the pack mysteriously disappeared and when I stopped by his place to help cull, brand, and vaccinate, I noticed 5 familiar hides stretched on racks next to several coyotes hides.

Here we have the cidiots dogs. The development since the pandemic is crazy. The dogs have packed up with the coyotes. I recommend the 3S method. Shoot, Shovel, Shut UP!
 
The district attorney accompanied my neighbors out to inspect things. First of all how many DA's would do that. He reminded them on several occasions that you do have the right to remain silent. This was not advising them of their rights but more of a warning that they don't have to talk to any sort of law enforcement.
They are assuming that the kill permit will get issued to them. When the game dept does the shooting they do it from a helicopter. With all the fires going on right now there are no helicopters available. The game dept people aren't exactly woodsman enough to go hike the hills to get it done.
The famous SSS is of marginal use here. Most of this ground is too rocky to dig a fence post hole. Gut shoot with a gun big enough to insure the bullet goes all the way through (deer rifle). They will run off and never be seen again. If they were found there is no proof who fired the shot.
 
Where I'm taking my cows next month.Well I wasn't going to rent it anymore because of grizzly and wolves but I'm out of grass and have no choice.
One thing that none of you have mentioned is that where I'm going. Well if you where up there all the time you could not be everywhere. Its horseback only. You could be feeding bears and wolves and not even know it until fall. There is no way to get as count until roundup. A 2800 pound bull is cleaned up in three days. The last grizzly kill that was discovered was just luck that it was discovered.
A neighbor just happened to come a long and see the wolves eating a full grown cow out in the open. Most of this country is forestry and not very open and extremely rough. He shot one of the wolves but then when he looked at the cow you could see it was a grizzly kill and the wolves where just cleaning it up. You could see where the bear hit the cow on the nose.
But in another day there wouldn't have been any evidence. This one was way out in the open not far from the corrals.
Proving a wolf or bear kill is extremely difficult.
Oh yeah and the police stole all my rifles last year but thats so upsetting I'm not even going to talk about it.
The world is upside down and Satan is running it.
Dont ever go to government for help. If they figure your down they will just look for a way to screw you over.
What happens with the wolves and uncontrolled hunting by some groups of people who dont need a liceance is all the game is either killed or chased out. So the only food left for wolves or grizzly are your cows.

I think they where Alberta wolves.
Poison is really the only answer but they will never allow it. I think this is the last year in Alberta that we can even use striknine ( spelling) on gopher's.
