Here's one for ya'll.

Last april I was in an accident. My back and neck are not right because of the accident and nothing short of surgery will fix it now (according to my doc).

I'm tired of hurting when I wake up and I'm tired of hurting when I go to bed.
I'm told I have a high tolerance for pain and I hate pain meds. I have recently turned to the pain meds because of the soreness and sharp pain in my shoulders and neck. I can't sleep.

I don't know if it is the colder weather, the acres I walk while hunting and checking cows or what it is. I'm really sore after a workout now. I've been lifting and working my back and shoulders, nothing different than before. I have not added any weight or reps but I'm almost too sore to move now. It was torture to lift today and normally I really enjoy it.

Wondering if I should take a day and not workout or just lower the reps and weight. Any suggestions?

I second the bananas. Do you live any where near someone with a hot tub? If possible, go to a gym or rec center with one. Try for one day a week. (don't work out on hot tub day) I hate hot tubs kinda feels like people soup, but it really does help the joints etc. Lift every second day for a bit just until you are feeling better. You have been hurt and your body is yelling at you. LISTEN TO YOUR BODY!!!!!

Do you weight train everyday?Gregs weight trained since we were married...he only wieght trains every second day,and if he gets too sore he takes a extra day breather.Gregs like you and has a really bad back...rodeo injury.Oh ya...you should never work through the pain.

Bananas are great for muscles...lots of potassium

Before you ever have back surgery you darn well better talk to people who have gone through the surgery. A chiropractors office is a great place to meet people who are messed up from back surgery.
Unless your losing control of your bowels and your legs are going numb I really ,REALLY would recomend you hold off on back surgery.
It might take you up to TWO years to recover without surgery.
Muscle relaxers and anti inflamitorys are your best friend. Save the narcotics<percocet> until you really need it because you will build up tolerence really quick to them.
Be careful lifting weights. Horseback riding and swiming are really great ways to build up your back and stomach muscles. Sex is even a better way<so I hear>.

I have had back surgery twice. Once on my lower back to repair a bulging disc and once on my neck for the same reason.

The first time (lower) I limped around for over a year contemplating the ordeal. When I woke up after surgery it was INSTANT RELIEF. Could have kicked my own butt for not having it done years earlier.

I would find a good neurosurgeon and have the surgery. You'll never be well until you do.

By the way. I asked my doctor about using a chiropractor before the surgery. His advice was to find a good "Witch Doctor". At least I'd know what I was paying for.....................................

If it is skeletal the answer is different then if it its a muscular condition....Do you stretch?Have you had your biomechanics checked, sometimes adjusting your feet with proper orthotics can elevate back and neck pain,or at least lesson it...Go to a podiatrist not a Chiropractor for your orthotics,or try a sports medicine clinic for them...Stretching will at least relax the muscles that pull on your spine and neck, but find out what stretching exercises to do from a professional in your pain area field....A total reduction of weight being lifted is a must...you do not know what damage you muscle mass endured and making muscle stronger maybe just pulling your spine more out of line...If you have a sports medicine clinic close to you go there, they will be able to help diagnose your issues and help you correct them the best way you can....

Thanks for all the advise guys.
I took yesterday off and plan to leave the weights alone today and do more of the stretching and areobic. The day off seemed to help quite a bit.

This is more than just an average ache. I'm determined to beat this back pain. After chatting with several folks thru pm I realize I'm not alone in the fight with chronic pain.

One issue with seeing a different doc is the lack of health insurance. The cost of treatment other than what I can do at home will eat up a pay check pretty quickly.

Thanks again folks!!

I've done "something" to the area between my two shoulderblades... the scauplas are all out of whack and the muscles are in spasm. pulling this way and that... Went to a doctor, recommended a few things, including seeing a chiro... First doctor I have ever known to suggest it.. Has done a little to help but more help has been the deep tissure massages.. Whoever told me that massages feel good... Liar....They hit the spasmed muscle areas and work t get them to release and it almost brings me to tears... I am sorer the next day than I was before I go in but the catches are gone or at least better...

Rest only did so much for me getting better. Got rid of the pain but didn't get ride of the feeling of the muscle catching... And 100% rest for 2 weeks is just not an option.
