my christmas present from my folks just came tonight. dvd of the Last American Cowboy show. i've only caught part of one episode so better go get started. my old man has phoned the last few nights wondering if it ever showed up.... he says "make sure and have the boys watch it with you" and "your place is run alot like the hughes outfit" and then laughes but i don't know what that means. better go find out...

That was a neat gift. I think you'll really enjoy it, and change some things
if it truely is like the Hughes outfit... :P .

I didn't know that DVD's were offered. Enjoy!! Let us know what you
think!

i have a feeling my old man might have been talking about the relationship between the father and son on the show. same sort of deal. i guess its a one man crew here too. some definate similairities. my wife and kids watched some of it tonight too and on a couple instances my wife says "i know exactly how she feels". its hard.... a guy is so used to doing things alone and its hard to have the patience and level head when there is something that a guy needs help doing - i know i get stressed in those situations. definately miss out on a lot of the fun stuff with the kids.

I don't think so.

Now the tractor through the corral is a different story.

So how are the bulls doing in this cold?

the bulls are handling it just fine.... your bull looks really good. i was scratching his back the other day.

Do you have a bit of the'Just do it-we don't have time to explain' syndrome-I know I do. Ranching with your Dad can be tough for sure but getting started without one isn't all a bed of roses either. Ty is the same age I was when his Grampa died but he's better prepared than I was to run things-if he decides that's his inclination. Nobody was greener or dumber than I was when I had to start. 76 can you PM me what you have left for sale bulls this spring?

We actually really enjoyed the depiction of the family relationships in that show. My non-ranch origin wife got quite a bit out of it I think, and unfortunately can probably identify with some of it.
We aren't a Hughes F/s relationship around here, but it sure makes me appreciate that our partnership really is one...although we still have the odd discussion point.

After watching those guys get that bull out of the heifers on the Galt place-well.....makes you wonder. You have to feel bad for old man Stuckey having to watch everything out the window with a spotting scope too.

i only watched a couple of the episodes on the dvd but i was going out of my skin watching the galt deal during calving with all those dead calves and sick calves. i thought maybe they need to rotate their calving ground a little from year to year.

i thought the f/s relationship on the stuckey place was neat... it would be a neat deal to be on a place that could support more than one generation at a time where all the wives could stay at home.

Glad to hear that.

Bear is doing good down here keeping his weight up and he is a pretty good tempered bull.
Better then that churchill one. Glad Bear wasn't taught any bad habits.

I watched the show when they did repeats of it and it does just drive you crazy watching what was happening at the Galt's during the the calf loss. We were wondering if they gave scour guard or scour bos shots?

i don't know but i'm sure that is a big issue with the bigger the herd. i just know that calving in april/may on grass and rotating the calving ground to not drop them on the same ground but every third year has totally eliminated sick calves. they hit the ground running and never look back.
