    Wet Winter

Glad you liked the pictures Soapweed. It is pretty country here, and we are anxiously awaiting Spring's arrival, as is everyone else I'm sure. It seems each year that comes around we look forward to the green grass that much more than the prior year. Must be we're just getting older.

    Wet Winter

The cattle were across the way, but our little 2640 got the job done!

    Wet Winter

We've had a wide range of weather conditions this Winter, but they all include some form of precipitation! Our cattle are doing well in spite of the conditions, but are eating up a storm. Most of our soil is red clay, which has made it difficult to get out into the pastures to feed. We unroll...

    The Slacker and the Stacker

Thanks all. It really is pretty around here, especially this time of year. We are very thankful for all the green, and feel for those who are suffering drought conditions. It is usually brown around here by now, but we've had an abundance of rain all year. Stacker Guy, could use a cab at...

    The Slacker and the Stacker

One of our hay stacks. So far we have rolled up 590 5 x 5 bales. Weever seem to have enough, always end up having to buy hay, one of our biggest expenses. Thinking a new roof for the old girl is in order next year. :D

    The Slacker and the Stacker

The Slacker, me. Beautiful morning so I decided to take Hank for a ride. I think he heard me click the picture. Nice view of southeastern Ohio. Life always looks better between the ears of a good horse. The Stacker. I was riding in the smae field my husband was stacking hay in.

    Doctoring a few

Great pictures. Love the expression on this horse while he's working. Wish we knew how to work cattle this way, we still bring 'em in the headgate or use the medi dart.

    Broke Cowboy

Thank-you all for your kind words, thoughts and prayers. We are so proud of our son, and he himself was very proud to be a soldier. He was a very happy, carefree and funny guy, with a huge personality - he kept us all smiling. Our son and his unit in Afghanistan. He's the very tall soldier in...

    Broke Cowboy

Thank you Broke Cowboy for your service to our country. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Our son was KIA last November in Afghanistan, a staff sergeant in the army. He and 5 others were shot from behind by an Afghan border patrol who they had been helping train for years. He was a...

    Charlie Daniels

Watched CharlieDaniels years ago during my college days at the NY state Fair in Syracuse, and Don Williams in Pa. They are two of my favorites. Glad to know they are still appearing - seems like a long time ago when I saw them. Sorry about the burns, that kind of takes the fun out of it.

    evening drive

Good looking team, looks like our kind of drive. Guess we're really considered "beef farmers" (we wear ball caps instead os stetsons), but there's something very reassuring that there are still places out there like the ones in your photos, the real west. Thanks for sharing, truly enjoyed them.

    Hank, you're hired

Happy to share. My husband had no idea what the "Rooster Booster" was, just bought it for a joke. The ingredients are Aloe Vera, Calendula (Marigold), Coal tar distillate, and Tea tree oil. We don't know what it's supposed to do for roosters, but it sure helped cure Hank's cribbing. :D

    Hank, you're hired

Thanks Big Muddy and FH. :) Hank was real thin when we bought him. Lived in a box stall and was a horrible cribber. After we bought him we took off his cribbing collar and turned him out with our other 2 horses. He cribbed on a locust post after eating his grain for about 2 months. My husband...

    Hank, you're hired

Between haying, bush-hogging and checking cattle, lawn care has slipped to a non priority. Didn't want to run the weedeater, so put my horse Hank to work on the trimming. He works cheap and loves his job. Yesterday we had a 3 day old calf stuck in a gulley - her Mom was bawling for...

    Lazy morning

Always fun to see the patterns on the mottle-faced calves. Maybe we should call this one "Bandit" Soapweed. Thanks for the encouragement on the wheat/alfalfa Burnt. Our cattle are good at sorting out what they can eat and using the rest as bedding. :P They run outside 365 days a year, and...

    Lazy morning

After spraying this bunch for flies they decided to lay down and relax with us for a while before we had to get to haying. We used UltraBoss this morning so hopefully we'll have better lasting power with it. Cattle stand real well to be sprayed with the help of a small amount of corn. Treated...
