BI- Directional or front wheel assist??

Had a MXU 125 for a few days while my old 2096 was being fixed. Great visibility and turning but not the best for shifting. Had to change ranges all the time. The one -35 moring it woundn't start without a boost but the tractor beside it ( 30 years old ) started on the first flip. Had to tease...

    My Turn

While me and another guy worked on their door the tire guy fixed my tire in -20 weather in his shop. When he finnished I asked...

    Mineral $

Is the price for mineral dropping yet ? A Local Feedrite dealer still wants $40 per bag of 1-1 . Should be cheaper to make that stuff now right :???:

    Cardon Credits

:P Thus the circle is complete. They pay you for carbon sinks then kick you between the legs and grab the cheque back if you have cows. But if you sell the Cows let the farm go to weeds and open a quaint little Bed and Breakfest all will be O.K.

    Cardon Credits

:?: I see nobody has come on and said They have gotten a cheque . Cource in a Con Game there would not be a paper trail

    Cardon Credits

You just proved my point Ben . You may already have good management practises but not get much of a reward. So you plow up the North 40 and get it blowing onto the fenceline them seed it back down. All of a sudden we are great keepers of the land and can qualify for a cheque  er minus the...

    Cardon Credits

Carbon Credits is a farce :!: Carbon credits is a Farce :!: :!: It does nothing for the enviroment. Its a stupid idea that some people are making buckets of money on. It is the easy way out for business to pollute and not change their habbits. Its one of the best legal CON games on the go...

poor folks at the food shelf

It happens in this part of the country also. Local meat cutter was supplying deer meat donated from hunters he cut and wrap at his own cost. The soup kitchen he was sending it to told him they would only accept meat cut into 1 inch cubes. Guess they arn't that hungry around there or nobody...

    Better Times Ahead?

There is still concern on how deep and how long the recesson lasts in U.S.A. and maybe Canada for that matter. Unemployed folks don't buy a lot of T-Bones. With all the negativeity on the news out there its hard for any market to rebound. Please everybody TURN OFF YOUR RADIOS

Striving for Low Costs and Sustainability

Think you have a lot covered. Maybe attend a grazing school or join a club for some hands on advice from some of the fellow cattle guys. I attended a 3 day crash course given by Steve Canyon here in Manitoba last winter. He's a young pup from Edmonton that has some good ideas. Can even teach old...

    '70s prices.

We used to buy little herfords or angus calves 250-300Lbs and put them in the south end of the barn for the winter. Nobody wanted them in Dec. Give them some TLC and sell them in the spring. It would take 4 to 1 to make that kind of money now

    Scale

Thanks everyone for the info :)

    Scale

I agree a enclosed chute area would be nice since I do most work in cooler conditions. Working in two different yards adds to the problem. And then theres the time and money thing again :-)

    Scale

Denny the system you describe is what I had planned. Mostly to weigh calves but big enough for a cow or bull 2500lbs. I guess a guy could put a tarp over it when allyway is not in use.I snow and ice can be a problem in this area for about 6 months

    Scale

Would like to put a platform scale in front of the sqeeze chute (single animal unit ) . It has to work well in cold weather -25 etc. etc. no roof overtop. Any recomondations?

Eliminating costs is always better than reducing costs

My stands of alfafa don't weather very good by November. What kinds of standing hay do guys winter graze that hold good feed value?

Eliminating costs is always better than reducing costs

Don't see anything wrong with extending the grazing season and keeping the haying eqipment. Old dogs are slow to learn new tricks  A baler will last for years if not used and stored in a shed and your gonna keep the loader tractor so when you get 3 feet of snow you can still get to town...

    What Have You Been Doing?

Moving pairs from smaller pastures to the bigger ones. Cut runways in grazing corn with discbine for stringing hot wire. Parked discbine for the season and baled last of second cut. Still bales to haul and corrals to clean. Another 50 snowfree days would be nice  smells a lot like fall is...

    What have you found?

Found a Turtle while I was spraying for grasshoppers way out in a middle of a field. He was one you find in a creek so I think He was lost. Put him in the cab with me cus I didn't think he should be eating grasshoppers that I just sprayed. Gave him a ride to the creek after job was done.
