Dixie Chicks Shoulda Kept Mouth Shut

I can't believe how many of you "don't care" about the DC's but continue to devote pages and pages of board space to them.

    Old Time Values

I think you're right. Part of why generational welfare is such an abysmal failure, I think. I tend to think people need an occupation of some sort that makes them feel fulfilled and like they're contributing something to those around them. And people who have never felt that don't even realize...

    Old Time Values

BTW, I haven't seen any progress in this thread. The same folks are still saying people are people and most of us hold very similar values. (It's not so much values that separate the political spectrum, but rather how those values should be achieved. For example, should they be forced on...

    Old Time Values

Well history major or not, apparently someone should explain the joke to jigs. I realize a number of people here won't get this concept (since it won't fit their stereotypes), but it's the rare liberal that would support chronic welfare, too. Generally speaking, liberals support...

    Old Time Values

Saying you have to be clear over to one direction or another is just as ridiculous as saying if you don't live on the East Coast, you must live on the West. It's bogus. But as has been pointed out before, there is a faction here that seems bound and determined to draw their lines and people...

    Old Time Values

middle of the road is no more "wishy washy" than being hard to one direction or the other means you're falling over the edge.

    Old Time Values

I guess I read her point as being the church should stick with religious aspects and the government should stick with the legal aspects. So far as the rest of it, I think you're just throwing out red herrings, myself. I'm still curious where the idea that anyone is trying to force churches...

    Old Time Values

:???: No they don't. At least not here in the States. I've never heard that one, actually. Government involvement is just as historical as church involvement. There are two aspects of a marriage; the spiritual which is the love (both their own, and God's, in the case of church...

    Old Time Values

Now you're beginning to see the light... :) Very few people are black or white. Most of us are shades of gray (ie, the "combination")

    Old Time Values

This isn't true, though, either. "Conservatives" like to have the government involved in things, too, or so it would seem. The gay marriage ammendment springs to mind. The intertwining of church and state. The Terri Schiavo mess... All of these are examples of places where the government...

    Values

Mine would be a combination of the Bible and (or maybe "through" would be a better word?) my parents/upbringing.

    Old Time Values

PS: That's just one "value". I'm still waiting for Tap's list, so we can debunk some more. But, I'm off to Bible School for the day. Wish me luck. My church's 5th/6th graders are well-behaved angels, but those Lutheran kids (we combine to have enough bodies) are just heathens!

    Old Time Values

Do you think they should be? EWG's database exists for the purpose of getting caps set. And it seems to be working. there is ever-increasing pressure for capping of subsidies. BTW, property tax prices are published in my local paper--if you're late. Of course it is. No more or...

This is my favorite link for the "purple states": http://www.princeton.edu/~rvdb/JAVA/election2004/ (My part of Nebraska is almost solid red  )

    Old Time Values

I, on the other hand, live in an extremely conservative part of the country and I don't run into this kind of nonsense anywhere but on this forum, either. well I keep pointing out that I'm a moderate, but Soapweed has told me many times that I'm a liberal... yet his definitions don't apply to...

    BLACK

That was rather my thinking, Frankk. The school board is in charge of hiring administration, and while administration makes the recommendation for which teachers to hire, the board makes the final decisions. They must have some ultra-liberal boards... :???:

And as much as I too hate paying taxes, I support not only the things reader mentioned, but even gov't subsidies. My bad. I was actually referring to "tax incentives". Ie, special cuts and breaks for certain types of business or business locations. Um... I don't get a dime in gov't money...

    Old Time Values

Um... inaccurate, demeaning generalization again. Most liberals are working and paying taxes, too. And when you get the chance, please answer Steve's question. I'm curious what the differences are, as well. And that is your broad point, is it not? I'll confess, I don't have a lot...

 That is an opinion and again illustrates my point perfectly.

    Old Time Values

This is a perfect illustration. Where do you guys get these generalizations?? This doesn't even make sense. Who have you ever heard suggesting this? :???: Considering the fact that the Founding Fathers were the liberals of their day, I feel confident in saying your assesment is grossly...
