Brian, I am not the praying type, however I believe in helping in every way one can. I've found alot of knowledge in a book by this man, Jerry Brunetti, about auto immune diseases caused by processed foods and pasteurized foods:

He cured himself of cancer with nutrition, and there are lots of videos on YouTube of him speaking about it. Last fall I met a woman who cured herself of Crohn's disease using his raw milk/raw food methods. She went from death's door @ 90lbs back to being a healthy, vibrant mother @ 130lbs. I'm not saying raw milk alone will cure your girl or anything of the sort. I'm trying to help in the best way I know how - nutritional information.

Gerson therapy claims to have healed all sorts of ailments from cancer to asthma, through nutrition. I like the fact that they aren't afraid to talk to nay-sayers or give them the chance to nay-say their opinion on it.
 
Thanks for all the prayers and hugs and everything everybody. The support we've been getting has been amazing. She is on so many prayer chains all over ThE country, I lost track awhile ago. They must be working as she is getting better and Mayo actually gave us a better prognosis than what we expected. Its still a pretty high probability that her kidneys won't recover, but you never know for sure either.

We goit home late Friday, well more like Saturday, and then a busy couple days trying to get a few essentials done and then on our way back to Sioux Falls for more dialysis training in the morning. Hopefully we can get the peritaneal dialysis to work good thise week and then get her and us trained so we can get her moved back home by the weekend.

Alison has been amazing through all this. She has a great attitude and kind of taken this as just another challenge to get through. She has been working on training her paint mare and after riding her some today at the local play day, I am amazed at what she can do. They have really bonded over the last year and they both were getting to the point of having a lot of fun together. Sassy gives her lots of inspiration which iS a good thing.

I will go now as my post is getting pretty long and I am kinda sick of typing on this little cell phone keypad and with these big hands I'm afraid I might lose it. :lol:

I could go into my own personal story about this disease, but I won't because this isn't the thread for this.
I'd like to say some things though...
Diet plays a large role in Crohn's disease. Every Crohn's sufferer is different in what they can and can't eat and what their trigger foods/drinks are, and the degree of severity of the disease. Symptoms also vary from one Crohn's patient to another. I'm glad your friend is feeling better, but if she truly has Crohn's she is not cured from the disease. However, there are remissions that can last days, months or even years and be symptom free. There is no cure for Crohns disease. Your friend is likely in a remission period, but unfortunately eventually it will flare again.
 
We have a father , daughter pair that have Crohn's and both have had sections of colon removed then they saw the Dr. Oz show on it and went to their dr and ask about the "whip worm" treatment - - - - he had never heard of it but did some research.

Both were given a capsule of whip worms and about 4 months later a treatment to eleminate the whip worms and so far they are thinking they are cured!

I'm sure you could google the Dr. Oz show and find out much more than I know.

The whip worm treatment looks promising to help relieve symptoms and put some crohn's/colitis sufferers into remission, but in trials there are some that it didn't help at all. I'll be interested to know if your father/daughter pair remain in remission and for how long. Are they able to eat what they wouldn't have been able to eat before (trigger foods) ?
Several people have talked about this treatment on crohn's forums, but it has since faded from the lime light now. I'm not sure of the outcome of the ones that took the treatment.
 
They have been in remission for about a year now- - - how much longer????

They feel it has been life changing as the father was scheduled for his second surgery to remove more colon - - - -both father and daughter have had a section removed already. They say they are "symptom free"

The doctor that did research said if you played with puppies and kittens as a child you will probably get whipworms at least once in your childhood and he feels that will make you immune for life - - - if that is the case I should be immune form everything as I was a very active child and if it was around I'm sure I was exposed.

Now Mom's it just might be good if you let your child get dirty!

I know this might not work for everyone but I thought I would bring it up in the hope it might help.

I'm happy that they are symtom free for almost a year, thats awesome!. I truly hope it stays that way for them.

When I was an infant I had a "bout" with something and spent quite awhile in the hospital. I was to young to remember any of it. The Dr's back then did not believe that children could have crohn's disease. I was then diagnosed with Celiac disease, which was a wrong diagnosis. In time the symptoms I had disappeared and I had a very healthy childhood up to the age of 30. At that age I started having trouble with major cramping and bleeding. I thought I'd just tough it out and not do anything and hope it would just disappear and it did. About a year or so later the same thing happened again so I seen my Dr who referred me to a specialist. I wasn't able to get in to see him for 3 months and by that time everything was back to normal again so I didn't go. I had on and off (flares) for the next 8 years. I still did not have a diagnosis at that time and I just ignored it and figured it would just eventually go away like always. In 2002 the symptoms were so bad that I went back to see my Dr., he had me an appointment to see a specialist in 3 days. I went in and had the scope, but wasn't scheduled to see him again for another 2 weeks to review the results. I never made the 2 weeks. I was in the hospital 3 days after the scope was done. I was shifted from hospital to home and back and then to another hospital and finally the sent me from Olds hospital to Calgary Foothills hospital after my hemoglobin dropped so low. They gave me two blood transfusions and tried to get the bleeding and symptoms under control with different drugs which none worked. At that point I was so sick that I didn't care if I lived or died. I ended up in emergency surgery on Xmas eve '02. I was in the hospital from mid November '02 to Jan 5/03. I was diagnosed with Crohn's colitis and ended up in surgery within 2 weeks of each other. Its a bitter sweet situation. I'm so very glad that I have my health back and being able to do things that I couldn't do when I was sick, but having that surgery is a life changing event. I've been symptom free since surgery in '02. One never knows what life is gonna throw at you.

Btw... I had cats, dogs, and livestock all my life.

I don't want to hijack either, so I'll be brief. The lady I met with Crohn's has been healthy for at least 2 years that I know of. As long as she avoids processed foods and sticks to raw or whole foods, she's fine. It's not easy these days to avoid processed stuff, so it's a challenge, but certainly better than how she looked and where she was headed.

Things are starting to slow down here a little so I thought I would give an update.

Alison has been back in intensive care unit since a week ago Friday, Sept 16. She was admitted after having headaches and vomiting and they suspected either a blood clot around her cathetor or a possible hemorrage on her brain after she had 2 seizures shortly after being admitted. Ultrasound tests and CT scans showed no signs of either so we beleive her condition was brought on by a rapid increase in blood pressure. It sounds like this isn't uncommon for kids who have kidney failure. The kidneys aren't happy and are still trying to do their job, but they just cant because of their reduced funtion. After several days of her improving, I headed for home to care of my youngest girl and even get some work done. 3 days later her blood pressure spiked and she had another seizure in her sleep and I have been back ever since.

She is feeling pretty good now again. Yesterday she was even sketching and drawing wich is a pretty good sign. She was unhooked from the arterial line and the IV drip yeserday too, so she will be able to get up and walk around the floor and even go outside for a while. It looks like we may have found a couple combinations of medications that will control her blood pressure, so now it is kind of a wait and observe situation and see how her body reacts to the new meds. We are certainly hopefull that we can get her home sometime soon.

Give her hugs from all of us on ranchers, would ya?? I just gave my 13 year old the third degree about a couple of grades in English..... My goodness my problems are insignificant compared to yours... Take care and keep us updated..
