A little different than the R-Calf "Convention"?

I should have clarified i didn't mean all in one year my point being I've belonged to both and haven't seen any rewards come sale day.

It's a process. The way I see it, you're throwing in with an outfit so when they try to bend the year of Washington, they can say they have "x" members. The more members, the more they get listened to.

mj...Tommy, I'm not sure how to interpret your question. The Federation of state Beef Councils being the national arm of those state organizations, I would say, obviously they only manage the state half of the beef checkoff dollars. They have that national arm to assure that the state efforts are coordinated to focus on the proper uses of the checkoff according to the law; to minimize if not prevent "re-invention of the wheel via that coordination, assuring that different states are not funding virtually identical projects, etc.

Is that the track you are on, or are you asking if the individual members have other jobs unrelated to the checkoff? In which case, the answer is yes, they are cattle producers, auction market owners, etc. ALL of them are volunteering their time serving the beef industry.

I was not asking about individual members. My question pertained to the Federation of State Beef Council Division of the NCBA. You answered that they only manage the state half of the beef checkoff dollars. They have that national arm to assure that the state efforts are coordinated to focus on the proper uses of the checkoff according to the law.

What does it have to do with cattle industry issues other than the checkoff?

The Federation does not lobby if that is what you mean. The law does not allow lobbying with checkoff dollars, and no one to my knowledge is trying to do so.

Tommy, while reading this old thread to find a quote, I notice that I may have left an erroeous impression that the Federation of State Beef Counciols division of NCBA does nothing besides manage the state half of the checkoff dollars.

While it is true that the Federation Div., does manage the state half of the Checkoff dollars back home, they also CONTRACT with the CBB (which MANAGES the national half of the checkoff dollars) and it is the national half, or maybe at times a combination of state and national dollars which fund the projects CONTRACTED out to the Federation Div. by the CBB.

IMO, your problem is not that there have been no rewards, it is that you do not recognize the rewards.

A problem for people who spend their money and/or volunteer their time to make those associations effective for cattle producers is that everyone, even those who work against those groups, still get the same rewards.

I understand all this mj. I guess what my question is, what does the Federation Division have to do with the NCBA other than have the NCBA name attached to it?

The whole point of the three groups being in such close contact is to pool resources, and coordinate and focus on building beef demand for the benefit of the cattle producer, IMO.

Since you are the one hammering on this question, what do you think is the answer to your question. You sound to me as though you have one.
