Temp was much nicer today--was 2 Above at 6 AM

- and got up to about 12 ABOVE

today when I headed to town this morning- but the wind was coming up which made the windchill about 26 Below...
Half the north country neighors- and many of the south Missouri folks were at the Bred cow sale today.....One of the Bankers sat right behind my cousin and I and told us to buy, buy, buy.....Lots of folks there- but most sitting on there hands- probably mainly because of the shortage/price of hay in the country and the unknown of what the winter will bring.. Many been feeding since Nov 1...
Top 3 year old 1185 lb second calvers out of a nice angus based commercial herd dispersions sold for $1000 or less....
4's about the same-5's $975- 6-7-8- 9's were around $750 to $790--Solid mouth 10s around $630- and Broken Mouth Short termers were $535- $585 on those that sold while I was there....These were all out of 150-300 head dispersions...Sevral dispersions were the same price.....
A 300 head bunch of trader 3-4 year old cattle brought in by the fellow that bought my "witch from hell" cow last week on speculation couldn't get above $950-- and the guy (buyer/speculator) took them home wanting $1050 ( which he will probably get if he holds them to about Feb)....
Hinman Angus had in 15 purebred heifers and 20 3-4-5 year olds that were ultasounded and selling commercialy -- that I was curious what they would bring-- but when I left after a couple hours of sale- they were still an hour or two from selling ...One of those sales where they sell bred cows half the night...I used to get some of my best buys close to midnite
Only bad thing about this weather is that they are saying this warm stuff might be just a teaser- and then the Canucks will let down another polar front about Sunday/Monday and put us back to 20 BELOW for a couple days before the long term warm up starts happening...
