Alberta weather.

Today's warnings:

Wind Chill Warning : Flagstaff Co. near Lougheed and Hardisty Issued at 4:22 AM MST Monday 14 December 2009
Extreme wind chills this morning. This is a warning that extreme wind chill conditions are imminent or occurring in these regions. Monitor weather conditions..Listen for updated statements.

Bitterly cold temperatures combined with winds of 15 to 20 km/h continue to produce extreme wind chill values of minus 40 to minus 50. Wind chills are expected moderate as temperatures rise later this morning. Temperatures will remain below normal until midway through the week when the Arctic airmass gradually exits the province. At these extreme wind chill values frostbite on exposed skin may occur in less than 5 minutes.

Wind chill right now @ 11 a.m. is reported at -47 C. Wind is stronger today than it was on the weekend. Lots of cows tucked in the bushes and sloughs, or right up at the yard. Unfortunately the swath grazing field here on the home quarter doesn't have much shelter anymore.

They said it was -39 this morning but when I went out at 7:30 this morning my thermometer said it was -28 ,maybe it is broken. We are supposed to get down to -47 tonight and tomorrow night with a wind chill warning as well. I hope the cattle are ready for this.

I do know that it is bloody cold out there right now though, and nothing seems to want to work right in these darn temps.

-43C here this morning. We're up to a balmy -34C at lunchtime but there is a slight wind picking up. My tractor was protesting this morning - started OK but eventually the radiator started to run hot - yet the cab heater was blowing cold air :???: Finally twigged there must have been a blockage in the coolant, stopped it for half an hour to cool down/warm up and now it's running fine. I hate running machinery when it's this cold.

Yikes- temp is already 20 Below at 6PM- on the way toward 25-35 below forecast for tonite...Wind chill is about 35 below and forecast to hit 50 Below before morning...
Picked up another inch of snow today- then the sun came out and it got to a balmy 12 Below...
I wish I could just hibernate until those 20 and 30 Above temps they're forecasting on Wednesday and Thursday get here...

I think the chinook is on it's way by to Alberta. An hour ago it was -33C, it is now -26 with a west wind. Will report again before I hit the sack

The news tonight said that yesterday Edmonton was the second coldest spot on the planet....behind some little town in Siberia. :D

9 here...supposed to warm up and snow....just once I'd like a BROWN Xmas!

I had a brown birthday about 25 years ago on the 20th. We burned swamp that day.I don't mind cold but snow I really dislike.

the beautiful people here think they need it to ski.....if it would just snow a little bit at a time it wouldn't be so bad, but when it dumps 2 feet at a time....well it just bites basically

Makes me glad I was not in western Canada

Windchill got pretty bad

Minus 59 degrees C equates to minus 74.2 degrees F

A chilly day if working outside.

Temperature of -46 C in Edmonton area makes it coldest in Canada
The Canadian Press

EDMONTON — There's one way to deal with some of the coldest winter temperatures yet on the Prairies -- outright denial.

At least that's how some folks were taking it as they strode into the Edmonton airport over the weekend after arriving from their vacations in Mexico, still dressed in their shorts and sporting tans.

Christopher Toutant walked out of the international arrivals area still wearing Bermuda shorts and a light shirt.

It didn't occur to him to prepare for a record-breaking cold snap back home.

Peter Spiker, a meteorologist with Environment Canada, says temperatures in the Edmonton area early Sunday morning were among the coldest anywhere in the country.

The mercury dipped to a frigid --46C at the Edmonton airport, making it the coldest place in Canada, he said.

With the wind chill, it felt more like -59C.

Spiker said it crushed the same day coldest temperature record of about --33C set in 1968.

The vacation buzz was soon to be killed when Toutant heard the pilot announcing the current weather conditions as they landed in Edmonton.

"My smile kind of fell of my face and I think my tan fell off along the way," he said with a chuckle.

Bob McDonald's tanned face stands out in stark comparison to the wind-whipped, ruddy faces of others in the terminal who are wearing heavy coats and gloves to fend off the cold.

He just spent nearly three weeks in sunny Mexico, where the temperature was over 30C every day during his vacation.

When told how cold it was just outside those terminal doors, his eyes widened in horror.

"I am in shock," he said.

Marie Scott thoughtfully brought along some winter gear to help her daughter, son-in-law and grandson prepare for the weather after returning from their winter getaway.

"I think they're going to want to turn around and go back. I would," she said. "I'm just trying to warm their jackets because they're going to freeze just putting them on."

Environment Canada says record low temperatures were also set in other areas of Alberta on the weekend, including Cold Lake, northeast of Edmonton and in Grande Prairie, in the northwestern part of the province.

Wind chill warnings were issued for areas of Alberta Saskatchewan as a large mass of Arctic air hovered over the Prairies with conditions that could feel like --50C.

The Alberta Motor Association also urged motorists to take along thick blankets, warm clothing and an emergency kit if they're travelling during the cold weather.

But it's a dry cold :D :D :D :D
Supposed to warm up to a balmy mid -20C today. Just in time for a Christmas concert.

36 Below this morning with about a 10-15mph wind...

I waited til about 11AM to even think about rolling the old girls out any hay- then had to drive around and coax them out of the holes so I could feed them behind a big stack for a windbreak...Wind Chill was still around 50 Below.... :(

Temps are starting to come up now--with it hitting 2 Above now----South of us on the river is up to 7 Above-- and I see the mine on the mountain at Zortman is up to 33- so that means the warm air is coming in over the top... :D :D

I hope this Jan/Feb weather in December takes care of all the cold for the winter

The wind missed us last night , first for us. Usually this is the first area any strong wind likes to hit.

Gorgeous out today -20 and the sun is shining. :D

That is pathetic when you think -20 is balmy..
