The Supreme Court in B.C. has banned the distribution of "raw" milk.

Gcreek, you better go shoot your house cow . . .

Yours truly submitted the first comment.

Maybe this is a P.B. topic?

Personally I think it is BS that the Govt. stepped into this one at all. If the 400 "owners" of this little dairy want to take their chances with raw milk it should be up to them.

I don't understand their need to drink raw milk, but it seems it should be their choice. Seems funny the gov't is so worried about that but they'll leave those 'head shops' in Vancouver alone :?

Maybe they believe that raw milk is healthier? That the "lactose intolerance" epidemic is a product of the pasteurisation process? Like you say it should be their choice. Government has of course had it's ear bent by corporate interests who would lose out if farmers could sell raw milk direct to consumers. I grew up on raw milk and it certainly never did me any harm, or any other farm kid or farm family that I know for that matter.

after reading the cbc news report I THINK if they want to drink raw UNPasturized HEAlTHY MILK go for IT .we have far to many regulations in this province. must be the BRITISH coming through.

We watched a documentary about the fellow in Ontario who was selling unpasteurized milk to people who had the same setup. They all had shares in a named cow, and actually owned the production from one teat each. He went to court, and he won. The precedent has been set.

Apparently, there is an enzyme in raw milk that helps break down the lactose in milk which is killed by pasteurization, which makes a lot of sense with the lactose intolerance thing.

I say if they want it, then let them buy it. I've had lots of raw milk, and it never hurt me either.

Well now that's just about sums it up perfectly!

I am going to use that in future discussions, by your leave, BMr!

Raw milk is bad stuff...you should wean your calves immediately after birth and put them on milk replacers. It's a wonder any mammals at all have survived over these thousands of years. Government always knows best.

IDIOTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We hand milk a cow for our family milk here for 4 or 5 months every year and have had no problem. Got milk from the neighbor from his cow once, I got so sick I thought I was going to die. I would be much more confident of the safety of hand milked single batch processed milk than the bulk tank version.
A bulk tank raw milk problem could make a lot of people sick. It all depends on what lengths the dairy owner is prepared to go to monitoring and ensuring a quality safety control system.

Dylan, that is exactly the problem with raw milk. We grew up HAND milking cows for family use, running a separator, the whole works. It is not a food safety issue, it is a child welfare concern

There nees to be a few flakes of manure in the milk, which builds up our natural immunity. :-)
