Used to be in the brand books here, one guy had an 02 on the hip and 100 miles away another guy had an O revers S on the same hip. Seems to me that would be a conflict. but that is what was in there, even tho' when I sent n for brands they were always telling me they were in conflict.
There could have been a huge wreck for brand inspectors in this area if we didn't all get along.
My brand
O
22
My cousin Rafter over 22
a neighbor Quarter Circle facing down over 22
All on the left hip. We all shared fences.
Who had who's brand first? Two of those should have never been allowed, in the same position. The board screwed up when the let them be approved, in my opinion.
My grandfather registered the V/4 in 1902. IN the 90's a young neighbor put in for and was allowed the 4/4 in the same position. We do not border, but a V can look much like a 4 and can be made into a 4 very easy. Not that I don't trust him, but they are not supposed to allow that.
There are 6 places to brand a cow. 8 if they allowed jaw brands. Figure up, math experts, the use of any combination of brands fro mall the letters in the alphabet, 0 thru' 9 in numbers and also the characters of a mill iron, rafter and all characters being in the lazy or crazy position. that is a lot of different brands, even if you threw out brands more likely to blotch such as B and R. There is really no excuse for there to be brands that similar.
And John, the non inspection east river just burns my butt. On the same token, why is there no brand inspection for horses in Neb. ?
