Ranchers that Rodeo,

The Columbia Basin has them......

The Currins out of Hepner......

Feedlot I send calves to, the guy that runs it is a PRCA Calf Roper, his dad was a PRCA Bulldogger that also ran the Cow-Calf end of the family operation,

So there are some out there, just not a lot,

I am a cattleman, slight difference in the rancher terminology.

I don't own a horse...thank goodness, but understand those that use them in their day to day operations.

I know several horsepeople.

Again a slight difference in terminology.

I know horsepeople that are definately not ranchers, or cattlepeople.

The whole rodeo, team roping deal is a seperate social venue, I know no real ranchers that have the time to follow the whole "horsepeople" way of life. Some try to do both, but usually either lose the ranch or drop out of the horse stuff.

I know a few that raise horses to supply the "horsepeople", that is a different animal all togther.

In my opinion, looking for a good father figure in the "horsepeople" arena is a lost cause. Rancher types and cowmen would make excellent fathers, but most already have their plates full.

Jase,

WOW! You DO have a head on your shoulders

Just kidding. I agree with your comment totally. There is rancher in these parts who spends a lot of time roping. I don't know how he gets his work done.

The guys I am thinking of, bigger family outfits that also have hired help....

Another guy that has a huge ranch is a Cutting Horse guy....

I only say this because 2BC, although we are being realistic, if these are the guys you are interested in, there aren't a lot, but there are some....I'd only say, don't overlook a true diamond just because he doesn't meet all of these qualiications.......Look at any Barrel Racing....Some acountants, Lawyers, Construction Guys, ect..are paying for some top notch Trialers and Pickups, LOL,

Hey 2Blondes. Don't hold to much anger against these replies. You said from the get go that your request was going to be blunt, and wouldn't you know it, you got alot of blunt replies. You don't HAVE TO work on the actual farm or ranch. Now days there are alot of farm/ranch wives that work in town. Most do it for the benefits. In fact, its getting more and more common place in my neck of the woods with the rising cost of medical insurance, etc. My mom gave up her horse when I was five and has hardly rode one since. She wouldn't have a clue how to start a tractor, or pull a calf, but is always willing to help in other areas. Trust me, if you can cook, you already have a foot in the door!

That being said, your cost of living will more than likely be low. Listen to the other replies on this post they are ALL true! Keep your head up, no one here is trying to run you off. Good luck to you and your daughter!

Since I 've been doing pretty good at keeping my mouth shut :gag: ...And Christmas is a few months away :santa: ...... I have a question???? Does anyone who is single or dating or what ever worry about getting aids or a comnunical disease???? Say for instance you find this dream boat and you think he is the one and some time your going to have s**... Do say :stop: "oh honey would you mind going in and having an aids test???" Or is it." Honey when was your last aids test???" :help:
INquiring minds want to know...... :dunce:
I am fortunate to have found my life long partner and I would never want another man. But I know some havn't and I just think dating in this time and age would be pretty damn scary and not worth the risk, :cowboy: especially older womem and men....... :pretty:
Ok inserted foot clear to the ankle bone....... :gag: :gag:

Somewhere I read a report that stated that the greatest increase in aids and std's were in the age group 50-70.

Because, everyone that age thinks they are ' clean' and were too old to ' catch' anything.

Katrina, if s** is involved then there's just a bit more than dating going on! 'Nuff said!  :D

Jason, I concur completely with what you wrote. I have no horses on my place and don't intend to. I wouldn't be opposed to keeping a horse or two for the right gal, but I don't want to have to mess with the horses myself. The horses would be hers, and her reponsiblity also.

In the time I have had my daughter--11 years now--I have "dated" 2 men. The last one on-and-off-again for the last 6. Neither of which I lived with--I have always supported myself and her on my own.

She loved the first one (for 2 years) as if he was her dad, but he enjoyed being an absent dad for the most part and spending weekends with her--doing the fun stuff rather than the drudgery of homework and house chores. She loved and adored the last one and wished he was her dad. He has for the most part been a great role model, but she has tired (as so have I) that he doesn't want anything permanent and " to make US a family."

That may all change when she gets more into the teen stage, but for the most part I think I have a pretty damn terrific kid that wants to see her mom with someone and share in having that company around--especially with horses.
:-)

So I supose a road test is out of the question?

Ive been ROTFLMAO the whole time. lol. AI is the new natural breeding :D
  SO blondes are scary, thought it was rumour?

What's that supposed to mean? lol.

Seriously, coming from a 14 yo, I think that the best ranchers/cowboys aren't rich with $ but rich at heart. At the beggining, it was only the truth.... that's what AI is, and that's a way of life now.

I gotta go plan for my trip tomorrow. Have a good weekend

Do you see what you are doing to your daughter? You get involved with men who aren't committed to you, your daughter gets attached, then they LEAVE!!!!! It may take years for you to find the right man, I still say raise your daughter, send her off to be on her own, then YOU go find someone.

I'm tired of this thread and I'm going to shut up.

Boy-o. You don't dare go away for 2 weeks to babysit grandbabies cuz you get too far behind on real news and find 24,000 postings on a tantalizing dating question, none of which you can skip over or you'd neglect truly significant tidbits like JohnSD is a wee hour eater of cookies and milk, not to mention some pretty sound advice from level-headed folks based on experience.

my 2 cents: for a very short while prior to meeting my husband I briefly dated a fellow from another country and quickly decided it would be dangerous to get too interested because I didn't understand his culture or him at all.
I would think the same would be true of trying to hook up with someone with a different and demanding work background. Trying our ranching first sounds practical and Faster Horses knows what sheis talking about.

Move slow, pray long. A good marriage is worth waiting for. I wish you well in your careful, thoughtful searching.

Welcome Home, nr!!!

Ditto that! :D :D :D

nr, actually it's a rare occassion that I have both milk and cookies in the house at the same time. When I do have milk, often it goes sour before I use it up and the cats end up with it anyway. I've never had cookies go stale though! :D

cookies are the staff of life in our house. when hubby talks about getting more exercise to lose weight that NEVER includes removing cookies from his diet!
