Generator Size??

I need help in determining what size generator I need. We already have two big ones, I need a smaller more portable one and don't want it any bigger then I need for fencing. I have a Bosch rotary hammer drill with a SDS-Max chuck and I believe a 10 amp rating. I can't find a watt rating anywhere. Do I just need an amp rating higher then that of my tool or is there something else I'm missing?

I was thinking about this one:

That ten amp drill will use atleast 1200 watts. I'd go 2000 watts minimum (running watts) if I was buying one but you might get away with the one you listed. You'll know if it's too small when the drill smokes.

I agree with H's suggestion. A 2000 watt generator would still be light enough for one person to pick up. I have an old USA made Montgomery-Ward that is 1500 running watts that has been repaired several times for being overloaded. That one is made in China so if it smokes you probably just buy another one.
Amps X Volts = Watts

Being money consius I'd just make a small trailer and mount one you have already on it. Why just keep spending money it's to hard to make. The thing I know about generators is they don't get used much and if they sit around not being used they don't want to start very well. I'd have one that got used more often than 3 that sit idle.A properly built trailer could have all kinds of options for fenceing supplies.

Excellent point on the money part. I'm getting back into some part time contracting, space is kind of limited with everything I already have to move. A trailer is what I've currently been doing when I need the generator. I'd also like to be able to put the generator on the ATV rack and not have the trailer on rough terrain.

On another note, after a partial day of fencing today testing out a new purchase, I picked up one of those nylon tool holder things you put in a 5 gallon bucket, it was a husky one I bought at Home Depot for like $20. I was real happy because previously I'd have all my stuff in the back of the ATV and was always digging to find what I needed, now everything is well organized.

I'll try to post some pics of the section I just finished along a stone wall. There were a few spots I had to drill holes in granite rocks for my PasturePro posts.[/b]

Honda makes a 2500 watt generator that is really quite and lite I have one that I have used it to run the branding iron and also the squeeze chute (not at the same time). I have been really happy with it and would buy another one tommorrow if needs be.
