I sure enjoyed Faster Horses (slower ponies!,  ) pictures of their trip to Alaska (Posted in Coffee Shop). They rekindled many memories for me as I had driven truck up there for a few years in the early 70's. I will share a memory of one of my experiences, and a lesson I learned from it. I was traveling to Anchorage from Kenai. I had been traveling some road that had snow pack, but well sanded and cold. My jake brake was on, and had created no problems. When I started to drop off the top of Johnson Pass to the Turnigan Arm, I was traveling quite slowly, but reached some fresh snow over the ice, as well as a temperature inversion. As I backed off the throttle, I had forgotten the jake was on, and it killed the motor immediately. The tractor wheels locked up, and the trailer began to come around the tractor. My mental lapse had gotten me into a serious predicament. Before I could even hit the starter, I said "God, help me." It was a prayer, and answered as quickly as uttered. The motor came to life, and I pulled out of the jack-knife. I've often thought of that prayer; it was anything but eloquent! I did not begin with "Dear Heavenly Father" nor end it with "in Jesus Name I pray." I did not even explain my situation to God, nor offer any solutions I felt would work. My head was not bowed, nor my eyes closed. I had a need created by my own poor judgment, and in deep sincerity, I simply pleaded with God (a short simple prayer that changed my life) to help me, and He did….no strings attached. Pretty neat, huh? There is no limit to the grace of God. Well have yourselves a good Sunday mornin', and don't hesitate to call on God to meet your needs.

AMEN!! God knows where we are all the time, and is so willing to help. All He requires of us is to ask.

That is a good story, Shortgrass, and one with a happy ending on all accounts. Your life was spared, the truck came through undamaged, and you were able to delelop a more meaningful relationship with your Creator. In 2006 Peach, the Kosmo Kid, and I had the privilege to travel the distance from Anchorage to Fairbanks by rented automobile before turning in the car to ride the train back. It is easy to visualize the long lonesome stretches of highway that you encountered while trucking up there. For sure, that job would be much easier with Christ as your constant companion.

I've said the very same prayer while literally being blown off the rain-slicked road on my motorcycle. The answer came through without delay and I'm here to tell about it.

That was some testimony, Shortgrass. Thanks for sharing.
Helps one to remember He is always there...what an
awesome God!

I don't know when I started this but "The Creator" is and has been my friend for all my Life Time - I Would Not and Do Not Insult my Friends By Turning Them Off and On with Words Like - Our (My) Father, or Amen. I feel like every Thing I Say or Every Thought I Have Should Be Known by My (our) Creator... - I have known too many ¿GOOD? People that Turn Him Off and On at WILL...

P.S.
In the 50's if the Madanuska (sp) Dairy Assoc. wanted replacement heifers they hired a local man with a flatbed trailer (with Stake Sides) to drive down to Seattle Seattle there he would buy old 3 titted cow for them and that was what they were Milking.
I met a Cowboy Friend from High School up there in Anchorage. He had a 40' gas rig that was hot in the States. (A Rodeo Friend in Arizona was not making it's Payments - We Took it over - owning a few)
I was in the USAF but Buster would drive - We could buy springers in the Seattle Area for $200 and sell in Palmer for $750. up - 7 to 11 days later...

I made 2 trips south on icy roads - Not in the summer MUD...
