Hello everyone... i am new here... i am planning to open a ranch... i am kinda not aware of how it is managed and how things should be... i would really appreciate it if you guys help me with this...
i plan to open a horse and cattle ranch

Thankyou

You might need to find a Mentor from your local area. It is literally a world away from here. I would be interested in hearing about your progress and a picture or two would be fun.

Welcome aboard! Lots of knowledge here, I've certainly learned a lot.

Tell us a bit about your goals, the size of the place you'd like to manage, etc.

And yes, pics. :D

i want to start in the area 5-10 acre...

i plan to have cows and horses to start with... i am confused about how much should be the starting number for horses and cows...

ill offer horse riding there too...

I hope your area is a lot more productive than ours. 5-10 acres might support one cow and one horse here. And one cow and one horse would not support me.
What are cattle worth in your part of the world? I understood they were sacred there....

I believe you're thinking of India.

You're probably right, I thought it was both countries.

I wonder if you can get Quarter Horses and European cattle there?

10 acre here is alot of land... i dont know how to explain and what terms are used there... but here 1 acre = 8 kanal ... 1 kanal equals exactly 605 square yards or 1/8 acre; this is equivalent to about 505.857 square meters... so i think thats huge and can support more than 1 cow and 1 horse... what do you think?

no they are not sacred... over here they are really tasty =p
cows are sacred in India. not Pakistan.

i am looking into rabbits too...

Local cattle is available obviously... you really need to look for imported cattle... and as far as the horses are concerned ppl do have imported horses but i think they are arabian breeds...

I just did the math....and one acre there is the exact same measurements as one acre here.

One acre here is 4840 square yards. If you take your 1 Kanal that's 605 square yards...and mulitply it by 8...that comes out to 4840 square yards...or the same as an acre here.

So 10 acres, even if it's got a whole lot of grass on it...won't support but maybe 1 cow and calf, and possibly 1 horse if you are feeding other stuff as well as pasture.

well yes... but the thing is that it sounds more feasible at the moment as i want to focus on one thing at a time... maybe later i can start producing my own feed... plus we are an agro based country thus its kinda easy to get these kinds of stuff... am not aware of what the situation is at your end...

well firstly meat export is an option... the advantage that we have here is that we will have halal meat... more and more countries are demanding halal meat... secondly i also plan to tap into the milk segment...

can you advise me how much cattle and horses should i start with? any rough idea?

We are in a totally different situation. With 5-10 acres, you couldn't do
much of anything here. Especially in the north country where I am.
If you ran one horse or one cow on 5 acres, you would be purchasing
feed for more of the year than grazing time. Basically you would need
a feedlot situation if you want to run any numbers at all.

I would suggest you find an ag oriented agency there that can help you.
I'm sure there is some information available if you look around.
Do a google search. We are used to dealing at least in hundreds of
acres, if not thousands.

Good luck!
