More pictures from last week

Hey Nicki how big are your walkers on average? I am one of those short people Jinglebob talks about liking a tall horse. I rode one walker who at four was sixteen hands, and so smooth you could drink a cup of coffee while loping along if you wanted, but he wasn't mine to keep.

You better quit posting the pictures of the herefords Nicky. People in internet land will get to see how well they can look and do, and they will all want to raise them. It will drive the price of bulls up so high, none of us will be able to afford them.  Seriously, your herefords have some substance to them, and they look very good. And so does that country you run in over there too.

Looks great!

Thanks Tap :) They do pretty good here. With what you're getting for your calves this year, you can still afford them
DJL - Our stud is 15 hands, his colts tend to be a little bigger. The mare you liked is 15.2. We have some that we didn't raise that bigger. We don't like them too big. In this country it seems like if they get too big they don't always know where their feet are

Do Missouri Fox Trottes move the same way as The Walker Horses? Had someone once recommend I look at the Missouri critters but I jsut have not gotten around to it...

That is a nice marked Paint JB.. Most around here are almost solid white now.. Not that the color matters but it is always nice to like the way your horse looks I suppose.

I have friend who rides a Missouri Foxtroter and he is one smooth cat! He just looks like he glides over the ground.

I don't know what he would be like , sorting cattle.

We had an old stud who was a pacer. The guy who sold him to me said he had a running walk, but Dad said he paced. whichever, he was nice to ride. And about as "cowy" as any horse I've ever ridden or seen. He'd get a cow in a corner and "bird dog her". Just set there movin' his front end a little and his head and neck, waiting for her to move and kind of daring her to do so.

My favorite horse, goes back to him.

Come on out and check out the paint. You just might like him.

I bought him as a colt as he was really well made and I figured when he grew up, and got gentle, someobody was going to want a flashy lookin' rascal like him. :D

The technical difference is - Walkers walk in the front and trot in the back, Foxtrotters trot in the front and walk in the back.
Foxtrotters were developed in the Ozarks for comfortable using horses. Until they started breeding alot of Walker into them they were known to be not quite as smooth but more athletic.
Both breeds now have alot of different types within the breed. We try to breed Walkers that don't like Walkers  We've had alot of people not believe that ours are all Tennessee Walker. Mike had a foxtrotter that was a heck of a horse, he died two summers ago  He'd go anywhere and never miss a step, rope off him, work cows, you name it. Our stud is like that too, but smoother. So just look for one that bred from using horses not show horses. That can apply to all breeds (cows too)

Not find a show breed horse around here? You slay me Nicky   Nah, they are findable but not easy.. I won't be bringing home a Tennesse Walker is all I know.. My wife had a friend who always talked about how great they were to the point where she wanted to strangle him... I don't need to bring up those bad memories by bringing hom a Tennesse Walker  Well, maybe if I got it for her, lol.

I was told the Fox Trots were originally developed as ranch horses... Could be a lhistoricla myth or it could be that for the most part they aren't anymore... Who knows....

Maybe Jinglebob... Just as long as you don't have a Grullo walkinga round there that I couldn't live without, lol.

Great pics, Nicky! Here and on the other post, too! Your country reminds me of what this would most likely look like, if ya could see it (we have a LOT of trees here).

We used to pack out to the cattle, when we were on the Diamond Bar.......it's almost all wilderness, so ya gotta do things a bit different there, or be ready to shoot some freddies.......
