Need lots of prayers

Just reading this for first time. Will be praying for him and his family, Lily. So sorry to hear you all have to go through this especially two little girls.

Just to update everyone.
He had a really rough night. His pressure on his brain has increased. They were gonna put in a trach and feeding tube this morning, but decided against that, since there were other more pressing problems arrise. His pressure spiked a lil after 5 pm today. Normal brain pressure is between 6 and 12 or so...his was at 28 even with the medications they are giving him along with the tube that's supposed to relieve pressure. Now the swelling that's causing the pressure is mid brain they say. They called his wife and our preacher into the room at that time, but wouldnt allow them to say anything to him or touch him because they didnt want any outside stimuli to change his monitor readings. At about 6pm they had the pressure reduced down to 20-22, still not good but better than it was.
Just continue to pray the Lords will be done. And thanks to all ya'll for your prayers.

Hang in there. With all the many valleys and peaks you are going through, I pray for strength for you and everyone involved.

Our family has been thru quite a bit of these type of situation's so I know word's spoken get to be monotenous. (sp) We will be praying for you all.

Well the 8:30 pm report was enlightening. Not sure I understand the whys and such. But......

They give him medication to slow his kidneys down, cuz they don't want them to function much????(I assume because they don't what him dehydrated) which in turn will make his brain pressure go up like it did because his body is retaining fluids......as of 9pm when they left the hospital his pressure was down to 15 (which they say is good) but now his kidneys are functioning too much??? He's got a catheter (sp) and we all know how that works...so what's the big deal if the kidneys function more than they'd like.
I know this sounds like I"m gripin but that makes no sense to me whatsoever. Other than "someone" doesn't wanna empty the bag as often???
I know there's alot of this stuff (most) that we as normal folks don't understand, but that one got me. I know they know what they are doin, and maybe it's just a matter of getting the right medications in the right doses for everything to even out and stay at a normal level.

Guess that was my vent session LOL Still prayin tho

Lily, the medical staff is trying to keep all of his systems in balance which is very tricky. They are probably administering mannitol as a diuretic. It is the standard but has its own risks. The kidneys not only get rid of water but also electrolytes like sodium and some medications. If the kidneys are over-working he is losing some of those chemicals he needs which may be why they are restricting them. Loss of the chemicals could lead to an increased risk of seizures (and other problems) which they definitely don't want in brain injury cases. All very complicated chemistry which doesn't make it easy on the family trying to digest it all and trust the doctors.

THank You for explaining that nr....now it makes a little more sense. Why can't they explain things to us like that????

See...what all you can learn on ranchers, never ceases to amaze me at the knowledge on this board, not only about cattle but all kinda other stuff too :D LOL

Boy Lilly, that is just a rough deal. We're sure praying for all of you. How is his wife doing? You guys hang in there

Nicky...
The best way I know how to discribe his wife is....she's lost. She is holding up for now. Crys everytime she goes in to see him, but that's expected. But we are all sticking perdy close so that she's not alone. I've always thought that when a person is upset, grieving, whatever it's always so much harder when your alone. Even if that alone time is when you go to bed. It hasta be extremely hard. So we are doin all we can to be there for her.
She's not getting enough rest, neither are Mr Lilly's parents. We've really been trying to get them to do this in shifts and update each other instead of everyone stayin at the hospital all the time. They have been coming home the last couple nights and in their own beds. I do understand tho that it is so hard to do that. At least now they've been eating better. The first couple days no one would eat anything. So we brought food up there so they could at least eat. They've since started taking turns goin and gettin something to eat, thank goodness there are some decent places right there close to the hospital to grab something.

Update as of today:
Things are staying stable for now. HIs brain pressure is 17. But they are keeping all the lights off, his door closed, and when anyone goes in, you can't say anything or touch him. So that all his monitor readings stay level. Other than that we are still just waiting. He's not ever regained conciousness. And they aren't keeping him drugged to keep him unconcious. They had talked about a medically induced coma..when his pressure was fluxuating so much. But keeping things quiet and dark seems to be doin fine for now.

Lilly:

Our prayers are with all of you...a trying time for sure. I haven't been around the puter much these days and just saw this...hope it's all going as God intends.

Wednesday Update:
He had a fairly good night last night. Altho today they were workin overtime keeping his pressure down. Three times while I was in the room durin the afternoon visit, his monitor alarms went off that said "ICP High" I don't know exactly how high but they are stayin on top of that. It goes back and forth as to what drug to give him, shut kidneys down...or turn em back on. He's now got foam leg braces on that keep his feet at a 90 degree angle...instead of "at rest" they say if they stay at rest the tendons and ligements etc will grow that way in a very short time, so then rehab is even harder. He has bedsores already but not much they can do about that since he can't be moved to another position.
He coughed a couple times this mornin, somethin he hasn't done before. Anyway, we don't really know much else as of right now, he's still critical, but stable.
Thanks for all your prayers and concerns. Means alot to us.
