So sorry to hear this news, Lilly. You're all in my thoughts and prayers.

They give him medication to slow his kidneys down, cuz they don't want them to function much????(I assume because they don't what him dehydrated) which in turn will make his brain pressure go up like it did because his body is retaining fluids......as of 9pm when they left the hospital his pressure was down to 15 (which they say is good) but now his kidneys are functioning too much??? He's got a catheter (sp) and we all know how that works...so what's the big deal if the kidneys function more than they'd like.
I know this sounds like I"m gripin but that makes no sense to me whatsoever. Other than "someone" doesn't wanna empty the bag as often???
I know there's alot of this stuff (most) that we as normal folks don't understand, but that one got me. I know they know what they are doin, and maybe it's just a matter of getting the right medications in the right doses for everything to even out and stay at a normal level.
Lily, the medical staff is trying to keep all of his systems in balance which is very tricky. They are probably administering mannitol as a diuretic. It is the standard but has its own risks. The kidneys not only get rid of water but also electrolytes like sodium and some medications. If the kidneys are over-working he is losing some of those chemicals he needs which may be why they are restricting them. Loss of the chemicals could lead to an increased risk of seizures (and other problems) which they definitely don't want in brain injury cases. All very complicated chemistry which doesn't make it easy on the family trying to digest it all and trust the doctors.
Guess that was my vent session LOL Still prayin tho
