Sorry to Hi jack this thread...

Our cattle bunch up in the summer period whether they have flies or not. We have fescue which is hot and the temps and humidity make in unbearable at times. They head for the shade and ponds @ 9:00 am and stay there most of the day. Thanks for the IGR info, I will consider it for next year as I think it's too late this year.

Don't worry about it! I thought nothing of it! My cattle do the same thing.

I tried some mineral with the "altosid" IGR stuff in it and my cattle wouldn't touch it....they didn't even consume a tiny speck. I changed back to mineral without it and they went right back to consuming it again??? I don't remember what brand it was and that was the only type of fly control I've ever done, besides what I'm doing in the picture below...lol....cheap, but labor intensive

You probably already know this R A, but i will remind us all anyway. While my bull is also pretty mellow and gets a head scratch once in awhile, bulls are still bulls. They can hurt you without trying and end you in a second if they get to feeling their oats. Scratch, curry and work with them all ya want, but ALWAYS keep an eye on them and have an escape route handy. Great pictures as usual of the worlds 2nd smallest ranch! :wink:

They can hurt you without trying and end you in a second if they get to feeling their oats. Scratch, curry and work with them all ya want, but ALWAYS keep an eye on them and have an escape route handy. Great pictures as usual of the worlds 2nd smallest ranch! :wink:

Thanks, leanin' H! You're exactly right! I make pets of everything I own and probably shouldn't....it's a huge part of why I do this. I start looking into eyes as soon as I come out the back door, reading animals though. I have a BIG one a coming though, I think Of the sale barns I have worked at, raising and hauling bucking bulls, working rodeos, training horses, etc, etc, I never even been scratched....not even kicked by a calf....so somebody's looking out for me! I probably should take the picture off.

Don't take off any pictures! Just keep your eyes open and be ready to react with your cat-like reflexes! :wink:
