Question for BSE tester

bse-tester said:
Hey Mike, I have heard all the jokes about how one gets urine out of a bull. Visions of getting kicked to death while underneath the bull and playing with that dangly thing about midships while holding a little cup, we figure it would go into the squeeze after receiving a diurectic. The problem is not the collection Mike, it is controling the flow!!! Not too many folks like the idea of being on the downhill side of the dam when it breaks!! :D Mind you, cows tend to let the dam break a heck of a lot more though. One almost has to wear scuba gear!!!

Also, while testing for BSE, we are considering conducting hormone testing also. Some folks out there in the market place are looking at "hormone free" products also and have approached us to see about testing for that. It is fairly easy inthat we just change the antibody and one aspect of the test.

But hormones occur naturally. There is no such thing as hormone free. Would you be checking for "Artificial" hormones?

Tam, I liked the line on the bottom about the NON-Ralfer better. Change it back. Now. :P
Sorry Mike I just thought that maybe if people knew the meaning they would try a little harder to use it. It's funny how little thinks like avatars and saying at the bottom of a post that don't really bring anything to the topic being discussed will be a distraction to some minds.

Mike, we had a group from Germany ask us if we could detect un-natural "Growth Hormones." We told them that we would look into it. You are correct of course to say that hormones are naturally occuring and all animals generate them as part of their own natural growth. We introduce "additional" and more potent growth hormones to stimulate weight gain, body mass, size and to speed-up the growth time from birth to market.

A lot of folks over in Europe are looking for meat products that have not been subjected to "unnatural" introduction of growth hormones. "Organic" appears to be in great demand over there, and to a much lesser extent here also. One of the studies conducted at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Chidren in London, was to investigate the early onset of puberty in young girls. Some (a lot) pre-teen children in the UK were displaying the remarkable onset of growth normally attributed to early teens and girls in the late teens or early 20's. Unusual breast development, pubic and arm-pit hair as well as some showing non-typical hardening of the vascular and arterial system generally not seen until the onset of the late teens or 20's. This caused quite a concern there much in the same way that we in North America are now raising our concerns about obesity in younger children and young adults. Of course, this is due to the other side of the diet craze - fast foods and fatty foods and a somewhat laidback lifestyle which all contribute to obesity. But to have additional, non-naturally occuring growth hormones in the human food chain in levels that have not been seen before, is causing some alarm bells to go off in Europe.

Tam, I thought the chicken head fit pretty well. Are you now going to be a chicken with its head cut off? That sounds pretty fitting also.

You know I like Tam's previous avatar. I just can't bring myself to read the long posts with the chicken head. CHANGE IT BACK. What was it before?

Just for you reader(the Second) I wouldn't want to distract you from the topics if I can help it.

By the way Reader did you know that most think Dairy cows are more prone to MAD COW what does that say about your avatar

Thanks so much. Didn't you have another avatar previously?

I'm from Pt. Reyes Station, a rural town of 500 north of San Francisco. There is a t-shirt which I have loved since it was first made and sold in my hometown that I got this avatar from. Pt. Reyes Station (and Pt. Reyes too) is a dairy town.

Yes, I know that dairy cattle who are old and stringy are sold for ground meat to make that last buck on them and because of their age / being born before the feed ban they are more likely to have BSE than young beef cattle.
******
[reader2, I believe, and am willing to be corrected by anyone with factual info, that MOST dairy cows produce so strongly that they wear out by about six years of age. That should make them LESS likely to have BSE than older beef cows, many of which are held till they are in their teens judging by what some have posted on ranchers.net about their cows longevity. MRJ]

That's why I eat organic ground beef most of the time.

Interesting MRJ. I think that what caused us to say dairy cows were more likely to have BSE is that in the UK epidemic, there was a slightly greater chance that the cow with BSE was dairy. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

I thought beef cattle were slaughtered quite early, before 30 months usually.

Just my opinion but I think that dairy cows are more likely to be fed milk replacer and protien supplement as babys as their mothers are back in the milking parlour.

Since BMR gets to have an opinion, I should too. I think that the black and white holsteins are actually domestic to Mars where BSE was first discovered. Thus their susceptablity to this disease that is destined to destroy man kind as we know it. :P :P

The story gets more amazing every day.

I guess you would have to beleive in the feed transmission theory for mine to work. Your is much more plauseable . I guess since milk cows produce so much they might have a mineral imbalance that causes it. Is that better Randy.
