remembering when.....

People think you can't drink water less it's been sterilized, blah, blah, blah gone through inspection, etc. I drink it from the hose and I'm fine. It's otu of the well, and it's cool water. What's wrong with it?

One time there was a county wide grass and weed field day. About 200 kids got on a semi cattle pot to ride from town out to the pasture site.

Another memory is going to sixth grade 4-H camp at Halsey, Nebraska. Probably about 30 kids armed with sleeping bags, inner tubes, and overnight bags got in the back of an open-topped cattle truck in Valentine to travel to Halsey. We made several stops along the way to pick up more kids, and the truck was nearly full by the time we reached our destination. A couple times, brief thundershowers passed by and sprinkled on us, but what the heck, we were young and tough. Were there seat belts? No one even knew what they were at that time. :-)

When I was 17 we were headed to a rodeo about 30 miles away There was about 8 of us the 3 adults were rideing in the cab.Art was driveing he kept spiting tabacco out the window covering all of us in the box by the time we got there we all smelled like Skoal.

And you knew you were in trouble, if your mom or dad called you by all three names, with emphasis on the middle name.

I still know i'm in trouble when they break out my middle name! :?

Yeah, I've drank out of the irrigation ditch too :o Don't tell my hubby, he get's freaky about that kind of thing. Like Red Robin said - isn't that different from what our house is like now. The folks we lease our rangeground from are from the Seattle area and stay with us when they come down. They (especially him) want to be ranchers badly. She has two border collies that drive me crazy, not their fault - hers  She won't let them ride in the back of the pickup, let alone a person! Thank goodness she didn't have children. She locks the vehicle doors the second she gets in...even here  One time we were riding, had left lunch in the pickup (in a cooler actually) but the sun was hitting the cooler and the top of the cooler felt warm - they wouldn't eat their sandwhiches??? Ok I better quit.

Can I have their sandwich? A cooler of any kind beats the dash of the truck or a coat pocket. :D My grandma used to fry up enough meat (bacon or sausage) to last a day or two. She'd cover the table after breakfast with a table cloth. For lunch she'd uncover and set the lunch table . The bacon , sausage etc was as good then as it was for breakfast. Same for supper. My mother would never have done that. She wouldn't use a dented can of vegetables. My wife is more like my grandma in this area. My mother puts butter in the fridge, wife leaves it in a butter dish out with a lid on the butter dish. She says it spreads easier. No one has got sick yet and as long as I don't have to cook or clean..no problem.

My alltime favorite memory of growing up was when we went to the state fair. we would put the stock racks up and strap the tarp over them then spread out straw on the floor and cover it with a tarp that was are traveling and living quarters. then when we got there he would give each of us a couple of dollars and turn us loose. we could make two dollars go a long way back then and we knew where to find him if we needed more and it depended on wether or not he was winning betting on the horses if we got more, but he usually did pretty good so life wasn't too hard there. How many would turn seven and older kids loose at a state fair now? I wouldn't but anytime I smell a canvas tarp it takes me back. Also we made several trips to Illinois where my dad came from in the back of the truck, set up just like that, they would throw you in jail today if you travelled like that. The original motor home
