We brought the calves home from the mountain on Saturday. Slowly but surely we are getting our little bunch a little bigger. It's tough to do much without great help and I am very blessed in that area. Here's the two top hands on our outfit.

Littlest H does his dangdest to be right in Dad's hip pocket and is pretty good at helping. So is big sis! I know I dote on my kids a bunch but they are worth it and then some! :D

We havent built a permanent corral up where we summer our cows so we've made due with a panel wickiup. Hoping to build a better corral this winter as I now have permission from our lessor. Anyway, we got em' trapped and started cutting out the cows.

They are probably relieved to have their calves gone by now, but they were pretty interested in the goings on when I snapped this shot.

We are only keeping 1 of our own heifers as a replacement this year and this is the one. She is out of a real good cow though I wish she had more depth of girth. She weighed 665 at 212 days of age.

A steer calf on the left that weighed 645 at 203 days of age and a little bull calf we got from a successful A.I. mating that went 635 at 181 days.

And another bull calf that tipped the scale at 705 at 209 days of age. Our spring rains paid dividends this summer with lots of pounds of beef converted from all the grass. Our calves had zero supplement except salt/mineral block and native desert range grass. I thought they did pretty good but I kinda might be slightly biased.

the only problem a person has with cattle like that is that ya never have enough of them, doesn't matter if ya have 1 or 500. good job big, little, and littlest H. :D
my offer still stands on your replacements.

So are you selling your calves or putting them into your beef program?

Hard to tell with pictures but is the biggest b/c a little leggy?

Thanks for the photos H, your younguns are learning by doing. :D

Now, if the trainer had any idea what he was doing......... :P

We will keep everything for fat beef except the 1 heifer and maybe sell one bull in the spring if he turns out. He is a little bit leggy but he also a long rascal with a nice topline and a pretty hip. He hopefully will grow into a solid although framey bull. A neighbor that runs crossbred simm cattle likes him quite well. The other little bull is a question mark at this point. We'll see how he looks through the winter and decide come early spring where he's headed. I figure I need to find more and varied ways to go broke quicker so why not sell seedstock too!

Nice kids and cattle. Those young kids sure are fun. We've pretty much ran that race my youngest is 11 and being his oldest siblings are 22 he acts alot older than he is.We've got a grandson thats 1 1/2 he's getting to be a fun time.

Want to rent them kids out come spring time? :D :D :D

I would think that getting H on the deal is a good thing. Where else can you get a post holaholic by paying kids wages? :D

:P Ya'll just don't recognize true beauty. Mrs. H just wants to trade me off for a newer model! I got enough of my own postholes to dig without takin' the show on the road! :D
