We brought the calves home from the mountain on Saturday. Slowly but surely we are getting our little bunch a little bigger. It's tough to do much without great help and I am very blessed in that area. Here's the two top hands on our outfit.
Littlest H does his dangdest to be right in Dad's hip pocket and is pretty good at helping. So is big sis! I know I dote on my kids a bunch but they are worth it and then some!
We havent built a permanent corral up where we summer our cows so we've made due with a panel wickiup. Hoping to build a better corral this winter as I now have permission from our lessor. Anyway, we got em' trapped and started cutting out the cows.
They are probably relieved to have their calves gone by now, but they were pretty interested in the goings on when I snapped this shot.
South ends of some north bound weaners.
We are only keeping 1 of our own heifers as a replacement this year and this is the one. She is out of a real good cow though I wish she had more depth of girth. She weighed 665 at 212 days of age.
A steer calf on the left that weighed 645 at 203 days of age and a little bull calf we got from a successful A.I. mating that went 635 at 181 days.
And another bull calf that tipped the scale at 705 at 209 days of age. Our spring rains paid dividends this summer with lots of pounds of beef converted from all the grass. Our calves had zero supplement except salt/mineral block and native desert range grass. I thought they did pretty good but I kinda might be slightly biased.
