Looking for a load of good solid black bred heifers for late winter calving Feb-March. Prefer synched and AI'd. Anybody have any numbers on what they're bringing. Looked at a couple private treaty groups that are wanting $1400/hd. Seems a little high, but trying to feel out the market. Thanks.

I need to get yall up a load and send them that way. They won't bring much around here with nothing to feed them.

I'm doing a little market research for ya..........prices here seem to be a little down this past week. Which is good, if you're buying, but not so hot if you're selling. Imagine that, huh? DUH!!!!!

Deming, NM-didn't have any bred heifers last week.

Roswell, NM-didn't have any bred heifers, but bred cows were-top half 750.00 to 990.00phd

Belen, NM-didn't have any bred heifers, but Young Bred Cows were $750.00-$900.00

Wilcox, AZ-didn't have any bred heifers, but Bred Cows were $500.00 - 675.00

Hope this helps............

Do they want some more? they can have all I got at that price.

Was talking to a cattle buyer that stated he could get all the really good but thin bread hiefers from southern Kentucky and Tenn for $30.00 a hundred - - - -the drought is so bad the Mamouth Cave Sale bard in turning away cows - - - no buyers.

But then he still wanted a good amount for feeder calves - - - go figure.

That might not be to far for you.

Here in North Central Nebraska the good, black-hided heifers have been bringing from $1250-1350 for the top end, AI bred, some freeze-branded and EI'd to calve in late February and March. Most of the good, big bunches of heifers in my area will sell towards the end of December on Holiday cow sales. A lot of people think we will see $1400 bred heifers. I just don't know. :?

Hope this helps.

Not sure about heifers. I haven't seen a bred heifer sell here in a few years. They all go to slaughter instead, or else stay home. They are very rarely sold. Cows on the other hand can be got cheap. Our buyer told us $600 will buy you the best cow in the sale, and they go down from there.

Could be another year to buy bred cows and sell the heifers. That would make three years in a row where the calves are worth more than the cows. :? :? :?

Since they announced the opening of the border in Sept.-- its getting closer to the same here...Even young open Cull cattle that sold for $58 and brought $900 to $950 the first of Sept are now bringing $43 and are only worth $650- $700...Old culls are down into the $35-37 range on their way down with the border opening......

Most 10-11 year old tested bred culls that usually sell as short termers are being pounded out....

I've got a nice set of straight hereford bred heifers for sale (85 head). Bred back to my hereford bulls for early march calving - 45 days. I am asking $1150.

Heard of a few selling for $1200.

We just sold a liner load of bred heifers for $1000 picked up in the yard-he also paid for the breeding on them. They were Angus heifers bred Horned Hereford-he bought them sight unseen but phoned the other day and said he was pretty happy with them. I've never been brave enough to take my heifers to a salebarn and roll the dice. I always offer to buy the heifer calves back from them but nobody has taken me up on it yet.

Hey Oldtimer, How many OTMs do you think are going to go South with the US dollar in the 91/92 cent CDN range(or lower,I hear talk of the loonie at $1.20 US before Christmas)?? Don't forget to factor in the 9-11 cent/pound basis...... and the bangs and TB testing etc. etc. etc.
I wouldn't be surprised if US cull cows started coming north.

TimH-- the live cows aren't going to affect it that much (except for the loss of demand to some because of the mixing of higher risk cattle) --its all those $20 cull bulls and cows that are bringing the price down-- that are piling up in storage-- and will be allowed across in a box...That and the run (already at 180% of a normal year) of feeders coming down-- to be fed in the US since if they are in the country prior to Jan 1, 2008 they will still be able to be labeled and marketed as a Product of USA...

UH...... Ok..... I guess???? Are calculators legal in Montana?? Do you have one???

Out here, hiefers are bringing around $800 to $1000 each for good quality stock. But with hay prices kinda nuts, I'd figure they oughta drop toward the end of the year.
