Wind Storm Monday Night

We had a nasty one Monday night. Some people say 3" of rain, others are saying 5, all came down in an hour, mostly sideways. We have trees uprooted, sheds blown over, grain bins mangled and blown across fields, and water everywhere. I was lucky to have a good friend here for a BBQ, and while Candace and the kids tried to mop up water coming through basement windows, he and I bailed it with buckets and trenched it away from the house. With two 5 gallon pails going as hard as we could, we couldn't keep up with it filling the window wells. At least the trench worked and we had minimal moisture in the house.

Some pastures there are so many trees down it's flattened long stretches of fence, like 50-500 yards in places. Lots of our wind fence here at home went down. Cattle all seem fine, thankfully. Our herd bull is happy, as the windfence between him and the milk cow went down, so those 2 love birds were snuggling when I found them yesterday morning.

Chickens faired OK. Lost 3 chicks, probably smothered as they were all piled up trying to stay warm. We had no power until noon yesterday. The pig tractor took a beating, although the pigs are fine. I'll try to post some pics in the coming days, as words just don't do the job. I've never seen anything like this other than on the tube from other parts of the world. Crazy times.

Glad to hear all are OK. Talked to a friend from Ponoka and they got 5 1/2" last night and were bailing out.
This is a crazy summer.
Perhaps that new milk cow is bringing down the wrath of the Gods :P
Good luck with the cleanup.

The main thing Purecountry is that life and limb were spared. Talked to my friend in Lloydminster today, he said most of the storm went around them.

Sounds like a real mess to clean up. We got strong winds on Monday but nothing like you are describing. We haven't had an inch of rain since the snow left, getting real dry here in the swamps.
About the time we start cutting hay is when the rains will come.

Good Luck with the cleanup.

I'm glad everyone is OK. I guess it is a little taste of what it is like to live a hybrid windy Lethbridge and rainy Manitoba. I noticed a few trees blown down at our ranch today. That was one big low pressure system. Be safe cleaning up.

People have offered to come and help with cleanup, and I'll be glad to accept. It took me an hour to buck up 1 pine that broke off in our yard. It's been here for alotta years, ought to make good firewood once it's split and cured.

I was about to trim some broken branches off a few fruit trees this evening when another cloud rolled in out of nowhere it seemed. In 30 minutes we had another 1/4". Unreal how we can go from so, so dry last year to having standing water all over in 1 year's time. I am thankful though, very, very thankful.

We had quite the last few days as well, we had 2.75" of rain, which is a lot less than people only 20 miles south. it was 6* in Olds at the Provincial 4H heifer show on Tuesday. We do have 300 acres of hay down getting pretty nasty, one field has had 6 rains on it in 12 days. I have neve seen grass this nice and it will all end well, a lot better than drought.
