I think its been a couple years since I posted on Ranchers. Been spending all my spare time reading and somewhat trying to defend the surge of government and groups taking of private property rights. Its exhausting!
I still see a few familiar names on here. Of course one common name "Northern...
Haven't kept up with Charolais lines, but seems they have come down in birthweights and see more finer boned charolais now. In general, I don't see that you will have any problems. Not sure how you go about marketing your calves. It does create more of a challenge when half are Char cross...
Its very rare. Several years ago I flushed a cow when she was 15 and she came up open at 17. That last year she weaned a calf at 580 lbs and she weighed 1100 lbs. Had never done such ET thing before, but wanted to get more of those genetics before she was gone. Last fall sold some 14 coming...
In my opinion that is the type of cattle to have. Cows like that are the money makers. If the feet are still good and the teats/udder are still good and are still raising respectable calves they can stay. Always hoping for heifer calves from them old ones but seem to throw alot of bulls. ;)
OT, are you talking that these heifers selling this Thursday? Bull 021 dam is from Diamond D angus. Just a beautiful cow, perfect udder. 021 is probably a 5 frame bull. Very interesting listening to comments on the bulls from those that have looked. I am fortune enough that I can have many...
The odds are stacked against the little guy. My experience if the calf doesn't get colustrum with the first 24 hours, his odds of surviving are slim. But you have to try something, I would be treating with antibiotics as he will become acceptable to everything.
3rd generation on the 95 year old homestead. Great grandfather homesteaded in Minnesota and grandpa homesteaded here in Montana. Not sure whether my kids will come back or not, they are busy getting educated. Hope either them or nieces or nephews will give it a try. Not without first getting...
I have seen Program daughters at Hinmans. Excellent uddered females. Maybe a tad bigger framed but not bad. AI'd some to Program last year, haven't had any calves yet. I do know the family. Outstanding people and family.
How does a typical lease work.? Who is responsible for getting bulls back and is there a deadline to get them back? How is a death or an injury handled?
After reading a few different topics on Ranchers this morning, from calving seasons and letting cows calve on their own. How will this sire work with those situtations after looking at his -2 CED epd? He has respectabel BW epd. My question would be his width for calving ease.
