    Damn........

Funny how those "Herefords" produced gray rat-tails when put on Angus cows....

    Lice control

I poured 'Clean-Up' in a small bucket and ladled it onto my cows as they came off the truck. That worked really well. I knew I couldn't make the applicator gun work fast enough. My vet told me once I knew I had a lice problem, it was too late. This year was the first for using CleanUp. Last...

    She's gone

Vindication, George! There are too many good cows to make exceptions/excuses for the bad ones.

    She's gone

Good for you, George! I've never had much luck trying to tame a crazy one down. Some years ago, I bought 4 bred registered Hereford heifers at a "Reputation" Hereford breeders sale. whew. say that 3 times real fast. Those were the nastiest heifers I've ever been around. After having gates torn...

    Smaller Isn't Always Better

Structural correctness of the female is also necessary for successful calving. If she's post legged, her pelvis will be rotated upwards which is a guaranteed calving problem. 'Show ring specials' with concave backs are a good example. A nice flat back with correct tail set is what I want.

About 10% of heifers born twin to a bull are fertile. Your lucky day Silver.

Sorry-my mistake-mature weight of the bull. I'd say it would be an guesstimate as to time of year but I wouldn't do it when he's just come home from breeding. Bonsma had a lot of ways of telling a bred cow. I wish I could have met him. When the hair on a cows tail head stands up, it's usually a...

Sorta like driving into a pasture and you just know they're unhappy or restless. Awhile back I had a young bull meet me at the pickup. He was growling-not a bellar-just a low growl. The mature bull had jumped the fence and went to the neighbors. There were several things the young bull was...

FH, I've been thinking about this and don't cattle generally graze into the wind? which would make them graze mostly in the same direction. The other day I happened to see the neighbor's cattle moving through a section of wheat and milo stalks. There was plenty to eat and they were all moving in...

    What would you do???????

Denny, I've thought about what you've said. Walk away. Forget it. I can't. See, this was a sweetheart deal for the seller. There was no arguing over the price. No tire kicking. Nothing. My lawyer/his lawyer. Done deal. The pairs they added were intentional, done deliberately. Their actions will...

    What would you do???????

I'm supposed to put a $$ amount on the extra grazing, the damages and whatever I'll have to do to manage the grass for recovery. I had it looked at by a rep from Kansas Grazing Lands Coalition. We're putting a plan together. It's tough to put a price on all this. Just wish it had never happened...

    What would you do???????

Update: I had the pasture looked at Friday by a NRCS range management guy. We identified two areas with less desirable grass that is still plentiful and I will put up electric fence to force the cattle to graze those areas rotationally in the Spring. Doing that will give the over grazed areas a...

    What would you do???????

Thanks everyone for helping. In the morning, I'm calling the lawyer who handled this transaction. We closed the middle of Sept. I was assured the renter would be gone October 15 and I assumed ownership November 1. Seemed 'cut n dried' at the time. I didn't anticipate the seller allowing the...

    What would you do???????

I bought a 1/2 section of grass this summer. We closed on it the middle of Sept. I take possession Nov.1. The grass is rented out and I was told from the beginning the renter would be out Oct 15. There were 32 pairs on this grass for the summer. I checked on it today and found that the cows...
