Still blizzarding here. Just about to go out and check the state of affairs. Last night we came home from hockey in near zero. Had one kid with her head out the window spotting the edge and me out the other. Half way home I thought I should get the ice off the window wiper. By the time I was done it busted off in my hand so we went the rest of the way wiping the windshield with my hand out the window. Kids should be able to embellish that story by the time they have kids. :-) I'll take my camera a shoot some photo's if there is anything to see.

They're still saying that will stay west and go south of us-- but only by about 100 miles :shock: --BUT they keep lowering the low temps- now saying we could get 15-20 Below... :(

We got a skiff of snow during the night- and the temp this morning is 7 above- very little wind YET....

Yup,not much loss due to freeze around here,but you might wanna stay in outa the cold,freeze that pin head of yours and what little common sense you have will drain out your behine when you thaw :D :D

Calves drifted all over the place. Several places they can walk over the fence so they did. So far they are still on our place, I guess that is all I can ask given the storm. Good one for you to miss OT.

AAAAGGGGHHHH! I hope it miss's us....Been running around this morning getting light bulbs in the well house- and trying to remember to get everything ready for the cold weather....Seems like the first cold spell/storm you find everything that is going to go wrong...

That looks pretty ugly Per. Hopefully you get a thaw before you need to spend money digging out corrals.
I am so thankful I got to see pictures of winter there before we got the opportunity to migrate. Like we talked about before, there is no place like home. :wink:
 
Our oldest son is sitting at the Calgary airport with his flight to Grande Prairie pushed back for the last 6 hours now . . . severely cutting into his weekend visit with a family that moved out there from our area. :(
 
I wish Silver would build his windbreaks a little higher, that north breeze is a little brisk this evening.
Lit a few brushpiles on fire tonight but the way the wind is blowing only Vancouver will get any benefit of my global warming attempt.
 
Has looked much the same up here Per for a day and a half. Horrible drifts around the corrals but out on the fields there are a lot of areas blown fairly clear so will make it easier for cows grazing. A neighbors cultivated field was blowing away pretty good this morning - the drifts were brown!
 
Still miserable, -18, strong north wind, some snow and lots of rearranging. Municipality has already wrecked a fence of mine pushing snow over it with a Cat. We have congregated all the calves together but they still are a ways from where they should be. They don't like trailing into the wind for some reason. Thanks for the opportunity to lament. The sun will come out tomorrow.
 
I have to ask, who's feeding cows in this, and who's still got them grazing? The way the wind came in here Friday, even the shaggiest of the Galloways went up in the coulees to graze the native stuff in the shelter of the trees. THe only ones who stayed out grazing the tame grass in the open were the Highlands - as usual.

Wish we had more grass right now. We haven't had nearly as much snow as per. We have drifts, but nothing you can't walk/drive through. Our remaining grazing will last another week at most, then it's onto the swath-grazing. The other stockpiled stuff is in the river valley 3 miles from here, and we're saving it for April 1st.
 
I think I will take a bale to the bulls and one set of cows. Both are in paddocks that were close to done. Too miserable to move them. If the wind would go down the calves will go back to work but I a toying with taking them some interim feed. They ate the close to shelter grass yesterday. The main herd is still at our east slopes place and I am sure they are much happier than anything here on the flats. There is good grass there until January and good shelter. Another bunch half way between will be grazing as well.
 
Nicer here today then expected or they forecast... Got up to about 12 above- and the sun was out for awhile... North wind was only about 10 mph... Since my son and grandson were handy- we sorted off and corraled the older cows I want to haul to a bred sale on Wednesday- since the next couple days are really supposed to get cold...Predicting 20+ below for tomorrow night... :shock: :(
